Predictions? (Not sure if this thread has been done yet?)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@BeKindBeYou you can pretty much predict almost every name which is likely to jump up if you go on the dark greener website and type the name in and look at the graph trajectory.
It's obvious from the graphs that names like Roman and Hunter have boomed whereas names like Matthew and Peter are falling
Take a look:

names.darkgreener.com/#peter

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2021 20:22

I'd be far more likely to call my DS Peter or Matthew than Roman or Hunter

Peter and Matthew have been around for centuries, Roman and Hunter will probably be very dated in 50 years.

mum2jakie · 17/10/2021 10:16

Results really are due out tomorrow! Love this even though I haven't got any babies to name!

BeKindBeYou · 17/10/2021 11:11

Very exciting!!!

bloominglovelyorange · 17/10/2021 12:16

@KirstenBlest yes I agree. I wasn't saying Hunter is a better name than Peter ! I was just meaning it's rare that there are huge shocks in the official ONS results. If you look at the graph trajectory on dark greener website, then it won't be a shock to see that in 2020 Peter and Matthew have continued to fall and won't be top 10 names all of a sudden. Dark Greener website sort of shows what to expect. But we shall see tomorrow anyway!

bloominglovelyorange · 17/10/2021 12:17

@BeKindBeYou you'll have to tell us if the names gone up or down (appreciate your maybe won't want to say what the actual name is)

KirstenBlest · 17/10/2021 12:48

Sometimes when people had a baby they announced the name as if it was something really unusual, when often it was something that had been popular for about 20 years . Lindsay (born in the late 80s) and Rebecca (early 2000s) spring to mind.

I can think of parents with 'top 5 names' for their age group wanted less popular names for their DC but gave them names that were very popular, and some who went all out to give their DC truly unusual names.

Someone I know went to trouble to give her DC unusual names, found that the names were then 'copied' by neighbours in their small community - same first name and middle name.

I've only kept my eye on girls names because I'm expecting a girl and here are some of my predictions‐

🌸Elodie and possibly Eloise will enter the Top 100.
Eliana won't make it to the Top 100 but it will rise higher than it ever has.

🌸Mabel will climb the chart as will Penelope which will now be in the Top 20.

🌸Lily will still be in the Top 10. Lilly will enter the Top 20.

🌸Lucy and Nancy will both climb into at least the Top 40.

🌸Ellie will exit or be close to exiting the Top 100. Emma will also drop down the list.

🌸Rosie and Rose will be Top 20 and although Rosa won't make it to the Top 100 just yet its almost there.

🌸Maeve may enter the Top 100 but if not, like Rosa it will definitely be heading that way.

🌸Thalia (and possibly Noelle) will jump up the list though I doubt it will make the cut.

🌸Names with an American feel like Paisley will also start to edge their way closer to the Top 100 but not quite make it.

🌸Zara will now be at least Top 40

🌸Evelyn, Evie, Hazel will either be climbers or remain where they are

I have become a real name stats nerd recently lol.
toadstool32 · 18/10/2021 07:39

Oo interesting!! We're down to two names to give this bump so keen to see. I think one will have gone into top 5 and one 15-20

BeHappyAndSmile · 18/10/2021 07:41

Oh I love name stats. I'm going to say Henry is going to be top 5, everyone is having a Henry!

Igneo · 18/10/2021 08:07

Might George be dropping?

CareerConcerns1999 · 18/10/2021 08:10

Amelia, Olivia and Emily will stay top ten (poss top 5). Heidi will climb on last year. Sophie will fall on last year.

2lsinllama · 18/10/2021 08:20

Nursery seams to be full of Amelie, Emily, Esme, and then flower names like Poppy, Violet, Daisy.
Boys are a bit more spread out (so we tend to have only one of each iyswim) but names like Thomas, Harry, Henry, Oliver and William appear every year.

BeKindBeYou · 18/10/2021 09:39

THEY ARE OUT GUYS!!!!!

bloominglovelyorange · 18/10/2021 09:42

@BeKindBeYou can anyone send a link of the spreadsheet for all the results. I get on the ONS page and can never get further than the overview summary page of the results. I'm already on the correct page

KirstenBlest · 18/10/2021 09:59

No big surprises.
I wonder what the top names if tey combined some of the results e,g, Theo & Theodore, Muhammad & Mohammed, Alfie & Alfred etc

BeKindBeYou · 18/10/2021 10:09

That would be very interesting. You could do it as they do give how many babies were born with each name, but it would take time haha
TataMamma · 18/10/2021 10:14

They've released the top 100, but no info on the top 1000. I know my DD (born in 2020), would never be in the former, but I'd like to know her actual "ranking" lol. Can anyone help?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 18/10/2021 10:14

“Oliver and Olivia remained the most popular names for boys and girls in England and Wales in 2020 for the fifth consecutive year.

Ivy and Rosie replaced Grace and Freya in the top 10 girls’ names, while Archie replaced Charlie in the top 10 boys’ names.”

The British Baby Names blog used to do a combined spellings list but hasn’t for a while - it is a bit of a nightmare. Half of the Theodores will go by Teddy rather than Theo, as will many of the Edwards - do you put them together? The BBN rationale was to limit their combinations to homophonous spellings, eg Catherine / Katherine, Mohammed / Muhammad etc.

KirstenBlest · 18/10/2021 10:19

It woudn't take a huge amount of time, but where would you draw the line. Some Theodore's might be Teddy, some Theo. Some Teddys would be Edward on bc. etc

Louie is more popular than Louis, and Jaxon more popular than Jackson - those surprised me.
