Predictions? (Not sure if this thread has been done yet?)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
user1471530109 · 10/10/2021 21:45

I know two Bonnie-Rai/e born in the last 12 months. In my head that's connected to Rainbows and lockdown 🤷‍♀️.

October2020 · 10/10/2021 21:49

Arlo must surely be top, I know more Arlos than any other name put together!

beans1992 · 10/10/2021 22:02

@finallychangedmyusername I pretty much agree with all your predictions but would add Delilah to the risers for girls and I think Willow will be more like 12/13. I am hearing it a lot lately!

89redballoons · 11/10/2021 15:51

Lawrence/Laurence/Laurie to start rising.

The full names are each at about no. 450 based on the most recent stats, with Laurie outside the top 700, but I have heard of several little ones recently and see it suggested on here quite often.

It fits the trend of traditional names with cute nicknames so I think it is time for a resurgence.

Classica · 11/10/2021 19:25

Teds and Teddys galore.

Wren seems to be a girls' name I'm hearing a lot.

thewhatsit · 11/10/2021 19:35

@finallychangedmyusername

We had a thread about this previously and these are mine (copied and pasted from last thread!)

My predictions for the boys:

  • Oliver still to remain at 1st, and George at 2nd
  • Alfie and Archie to fall out of top 20
  • Teddy, Edward, Theo and Theodore all to rise
  • Noah to fall, but still be in top ten
  • Hugo to rise from 48th
  • Bobby to rise from 68th and Robert from 115th
  • Eli to rise from 107th
  • Oakley to fall out of top 100 (at 98th in 2019 data)
  • Dexter to rise from 114th
  • Otis to rise from 124th
  • Vincent to rise from 136th
  • Nathaniel to rise from 137th
  • Logan to fall from 29th

And the girls....:

  • Harper to fall from 29th
  • Willow to rise slightly from 19th
  • Penelope to rise from 41st
  • Top 20 to remain with majority of names starting with a vowel
  • Arabella to rise from 71st
  • Anna to rise from 82nd
  • Thea to rise from 46th
  • Chloe to fall from 39th
  • Margot to rise from 94th
  • Lara to rise from 97th
  • Beatrix to rise from 164th
  • Seren to rise from 196th
  • Phoebe to rise slightly from 22nd

I'm ridiculously excited about the release. Grin

Wow, I love these!

I’m pretty shocked that Logan is 29th. I’ve never met one.

Agree totally on Arabella. I reckon it’ll be a Top 20 name within a few years.

Every boy I’ve known born recently had been called Jack but it’s a Top 10 name already (steady decline though I think, but still v popular) so I guess knowing so many isn’t that unusual really.

finallychangedmyusername · 11/10/2021 20:41

I'm really hoping my predictions come true - feeling the pressure now! Grin

Fivebeanchilli · 11/10/2021 21:30

I think Penelope will have risen from 41st but maybe not as high as 30th.
I agree Margot will have risen, maybe quite a lot of places.
I think Chloe will fall again - I think Eleanor and Ella will both fall.
I think Iris will rise as will Clara.
I think Isabel and all its spellings will fall but Isabella will rise.
I think Eve, Evie, Eva and particularly Evelyn will rise still further.
I think Arthur will be the biggest riser for the boys but Hugo will have a big rise too.
Interesting what pp said about Felix - in my part of the country they are all teenagers (along with Oscar) so it will be interesting to see that one.

Classica · 11/10/2021 21:45

Oh yes, Margot for sure!

Clarabellawilliamson · 11/10/2021 22:06

I agree about Felix- My Felix is now 3, born in one part of the country where it was VERY rare. We relocated when he was 1 and now hear it in every playground round here!

Darceyhemingway · 12/10/2021 09:21

I'm so excited I read it every year but I'm 33 weeks pregnant this time so extra excited!!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/10/2021 09:39

@QuiltedHippo

Theo has to be in the top 10 surely
The ranking is deceptive. If you combined all of the Theos and Theodores from 2019 they would comfortably overtake Oliver for #1.
spiderlight · 12/10/2021 11:48

I only know two baby girls born this year and they're both called Lyla, so I reckon that will turn up in the top 100 or so.

bloominglovelyorange · 12/10/2021 11:55

@ZoyaTheDestroyer yes but you'd need to do the same for all the Ollie and Ollys too!

Ollie for example is number 85 in the 2019 chart on its own.

thewhatsit · 12/10/2021 12:20

Also I wouldn’t be surprised if Ottilie gets into the Top 100 for girls.

KirstenBlest · 12/10/2021 13:38

Won't the top name be Muhammad?

Girls will probably be Sophia or Olivia, followed by a lot of Ella, Eva, Isla and Lily type names

Classica · 12/10/2021 14:08

I'm sure the Daily Mail has its Muhammad article ready to file.

thewhatsit · 12/10/2021 16:13

@KirstenBlest

Won't the top name be Muhammad?

Girls will probably be Sophia or Olivia, followed by a lot of Ella, Eva, Isla and Lily type names

Why? It hasn’t been to date. The most popular name is Oliver and it has been number 1 for years and years.
KirstenBlest · 12/10/2021 16:19

That's because there are different ways of spelling it.
AFAIK there is only one way of spelling Oliver

thewhatsit · 12/10/2021 16:29

Yes I know. But officially Oliver is number 1 and has been for ages (I guess there are is also Ollie and Olly which should be combined, but they’ll be pretty minor additions). Names to watch on the boys side are things like Roman I think, which is on a ridiculously fast increase.

There is a list somewhere where similar names are combined - which obviously pushes names like Evie right up (Evie/ Evelyn etc).

PinkWaferBiscuit · 12/10/2021 16:36

It feels like 'A' names are definitely the most used for boys so I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Albie, Archie, Arlo, Alfie, Arley and Artie in the top 20. It genuinely sometimes feels like every small boy around here is one of the above.

Girls wise we've met about a million Lyra's and Florence's at toddler groups since they reopened. Also agreed that names such as Hope, faith and Serenity are on the rise since covid.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 12/10/2021 16:47

Lyra will definitely have a rise, I think due to His Dark Materials.

Agree that Arlo will rise, it seems super popular around here right now although it probably won’t soar on ONS until the release in 2022.

hiredandsqueak · 12/10/2021 17:01

Lots of what we might consider a surname as first names here so Hunter Parker and Reagan seem popular. Henry, Arthur and Theo/Ted/ Teddy/ Theodore very popular here as well. Not sure about girls because everyone I know seems to have had boys

beans1992 · 12/10/2021 20:21

Yes to Roman! Great name, can see why it’s been popular.

BeKindBeYou · 13/10/2021 19:36

We named our little baby officially on Tuesday. I really really hope it has not ‘jumped’ the chart too high!

Additionally, our other son who was born in 2020 was named after a name we loved but did not have much insight into popular names back then or this website but it’s one that’s been mentioned loads in this thread so I’m expecting that to jump up lol
