Anyone seen this? Entertaining list. Poor George, not sure he deserves to be there.

I saw that yesterday, dd's name is on there and so is her best friends.. Hmm I disagree!

Winterfellismyhome · 29/09/2021 13:49

I think they're trying to be funny but it comes across as quite mean

Mommabear20 · 29/09/2021 13:53

Both my kids are on there! Definitely disagree with some of them! I get the reasons some people won't like them but There's definitely worse names! They're not exactly out there names either!

Kanaloa · 29/09/2021 13:55

I mean there’s names like Alice and Mia alongside Phelony, Sassi and Princess. Then Arthur, John and George along with Inspektor and Jedi. Just doesn’t make any sense.

Soubriquet · 29/09/2021 13:57

I just laughed when I saw Boomquifa

I mean..come on

Mamette · 29/09/2021 14:04

I see Stormy is there…

Megan2018 · 29/09/2021 14:10

Anything that references “Karen”
in that way isn’t fit for reading. Makes me really angry. I have a close friend called Karen that has self harmed from bullying as an adult over her name. Awful behaviour Angry

MaggieFS · 29/09/2021 14:11

They've missed Ballonz.

MaggieFS · 29/09/2021 14:13

Actually it is a pretty cruel article all round. Most of us have grown out of that sort of attitude towards people's names.

WinterCarlisle · 29/09/2021 14:17

They’re trying to come over as amusing but failing miserably. It just sounds unpleasant, narrow minded and unintelligent tbh.

My name is on there too

rubydoobydoo · 29/09/2021 14:22

This does come across as mean.
Boomquifa is amazing though!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/09/2021 14:25

Its a bizarre list. Some are completely normal. Some are currently unusable due to popular culture. Some are 'made up'. And some are genocidal maniacs....

inappropriateraspberry · 29/09/2021 14:25

Most of those are just misspellings of traditional names. You wonder if the registrar would question if the parents meant Elizabeth not Elizabreath, but they probably aren't allowed to! Phonetic spellings happen quite a lot I think.

weebarra · 29/09/2021 14:31

And some of the list are attributable to other cultures!

IMO your comment is exactly why I agree with them that Karen is a bad baby name. I hate what's happened to that name, which is exactly why I wouldn't inflict it on a baby. I'm sure actual Karens out there have debated changing their name.

That list is just horrible. I'm the first person to admit that I judge people who give their babies ridiculous or misspelled names, but that list has some absolutely normal names on it! Nothing wrong with Mia, Skye, George or Arthur. I don't think that half the names should actually be on there.

WeasilyPleased · 29/09/2021 22:56

Daft and spiteful article but Boomquifa made me laugh!

Balonzette · 30/09/2021 05:35

It's not very entertaining. It's a bit odd. Most of the names are just really obvious and others are perfectly nice names. The reasons given are either too obvious, or not at all relatable. Like no, I never think of Louis Walsh when I hear the name Louis? Or butter when I hear Flora? Or 'grey ham' when I hear Graham, etc

Orphlids · 30/09/2021 06:08

Ugh, reading that has made me cringe. The author comes across as incredibly stupid, unkind and culturally ignorant. Some perfectly pleasant and usable names there. A mean-spirited article.

SethWho · 30/09/2021 06:48

Found it strangley dated- with references to Louis Walsh and North West.

tickledtiger · 30/09/2021 09:26

This is a wind up article. Lots of normal names with a vague unfortunate connotation mixed in with the likes of “Adolf” etc.

Not just saying that because my DD’s name rapidly appeared on the list, lol

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/09/2021 09:32

It's a throw away piss take article, nothing wrong with quite a few of the 'traditional' names on there, there are some howlers on that list though.

Purplemoon26 · 30/09/2021 09:40

How pathetic. Embarrassed for whoever wrote it. Not entertaining at all and lots of perfectly nice names on there.

peaceinourtime · 30/09/2021 10:05

Ugochukwu is a name that gets shorted to Ugo. The article mentioned the shorting of Ygo for Hugo but there are spellings of Hugo.

ReeseWitherfork · 30/09/2021 12:07

Well I was entertained by it! It was indeed mean spirited, but being judgey about baby names is hardly unusual. I bet the article got a lot of clicks.

I can't agree with them with George, Skye or Louis because I don't watch Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol or the X Factor. They do make a point about Mia though.
