Anyone seen this? Entertaining list. Poor George, not sure he deserves to be there.

@juliainthedeepwater

Did you write this, OP?
Haha no. If I wrote a list it would be a lot meaner 😂 I just found it entertaining (and not because I agree with it).

Boomquifa?? As in pronounced with a ‘queef’. Sounds like an almighty fanny fart…

It’s quite a tongue and cheek article - if my child’s name was on there I couldn’t be offended. There are some genuine stinkers and then there are some that the author doesn’t like for their own reasons which is fine. I don’t know why it’s suddenly so controversial to have a negative opinion on names - people pretending any name should be happily accepted and respected is why there are poor children out there named Boomquifa.

LaBellina · 16/10/2021 12:29

I agree with all of them except Aimee and George. Both lovely, classic names that are now taking the spot of much worse names that for some mysterious reason didn’t make the list.

I went to school with a few Brian’s so they are under 50.

Doyle means you are an idiot where I am from.

Names like George,Mia, Alice and Louis are just so ordinary...hardly worst names ever on a par with Hitler. As for names like Princess or King, these are popular names in many African families.

This would be the same Emma's Diary that was fined by the ICO a few years ago for illegally selling new mothers' data, yes? Delightful company.

ISeeTheLight · 17/10/2021 22:01

What a nasty article. And no my child's name isn't on the list. Just plain insulting for the most part; not funny in the slightest.

Rude

I can’t believe they put Baby on a worst names list when Baby is the default name given to stillborn or late miscarried babies, if their parents find it too traumatic to name them.

One of mine was named Baby MyLastName for their post mortem as they were a sudden loss and we hadn’t had any naming conversations yet. Being suddenly asked for his name to put on a form was a step too far right then.

Amammai · 17/10/2021 22:16

Just comes across as nasty. No need for the article at all.

Yes, this is appalling. There are a few entries for 'Baby' in the ONS data every year. I've seen it mocked on this board before, but as you say it is almost always because the baby was stillborn.
Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 17/10/2021 22:18

Who writes this witless crap? Are they paid for it? A name means something 'in African'? That well known language, African?

PanicBuyingSprouts · 17/10/2021 22:19

I think they're trying to be funny but it comes across as quite mean

And racist.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 17/10/2021 22:25

It’s a dreadful article.

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 18/10/2021 05:49

The sloppy inclusion of Akuji has actually pissed me off, it's a Yoruba 'abiku' name which is a actually a very sad but fascinating ancient tradition which has historically tried to account for repeated infant mortalities in a family by giving a baby a name (and other practices) that anticipates the plan for it to be born and die and thus stop another bereavement from happening. These terribly written and not-researched filler articles really annoy me! Why is so much poor quality content needed on the internet?!

MiddleEasternMummy · 18/10/2021 06:05

Some of the names on there are hideous to be fair !
I personally can't stand the silly spellings for names .
Ajax made me laugh though .. the mind boggles .

Longdistance · 18/10/2021 06:07

My dh and dds names are in there. Nothing unusual about them. Just a weird, crap and yes, infantile article written by some random idiot.

BedknobandBroomsticks · 18/10/2021 06:12

Weird list and quite racist in the way it mocks some names.
