Misty May

Just want to get thoughts from women who don't know me...

May was my grandmother's middle name so that's a definite.

I really like the name Artemis but it seems so grown up and old so I'm thinking Misty for a nickname.

Does Misty May sound too cutesy?

Thank you for your input!!!! Smile

I always thought Artemis was a boys nameBlush.
I don't like Misty May. Sounds like a singing turn in a backstreet pub.

ignatiusjreilly · 28/09/2021 10:49

Misty is a beautiful name! Makes me think of the old song, and beautiful Autumn mornings, and the cheap Bailey's knock-off called Irish Mist.

I prefer Misty to Artemis.

daisypond · 28/09/2021 10:50

Artemis is great. Artemis May is great. Misty May is not great. Misty as a general nickname for Artemis is fine —as long as you don’t call her Misty May. Artemis is definitely a girl’s name.

IdblowJonSnow · 28/09/2021 10:51

I like both names but not together. Sounds too twee!

Toastytoads · 28/09/2021 10:51

I prefer Foggy February to Misty May

Artemis is a male name isn’t it? And may is female? So I’m a bit confused. We used to have a cat called misty….

TheWayTheLightFalls · 28/09/2021 10:52

It’s really fine - she will hardly ever be called by her full name and when she is it’ll be Artemis May, not Misty May. I bloody love the name Artemis but we can’t use it. The (only) one I know is about 6 now and goes by Misa as a nn.

elfran · 28/09/2021 10:53

Artemis is such a name crush for me, and Misty is a cute and wearable nn for a little girl imo.

Is May the middle? Because if so go for it, I don't think there'd be many occasions she'd be called nn-mn-surname if you know what I mean. I've been called by a nn for most of my life but if anybody is going to use my full name (as in middle and surname), they'd revert to the longer versioning my first name. And Artemis May sounds 👌🏼

Gorl · 28/09/2021 10:53

Sounds like a mills and Boone heroine

TheWayTheLightFalls · 28/09/2021 10:54

user the goddess Artemis was female, but I think Artemis Fowl has muddled things.

daisypond · 28/09/2021 10:54

Artemis is famously a Greek goddess, the equivalent of Diana in Roman mythology.

Emelene · 28/09/2021 10:55

I actually think Artemis May is really beautiful. Smile

shellistar · 28/09/2021 10:55

What about Mae as a modern spin on the classic May?

I love the name and it's so popular now. My niece is Sierra-Mae and there is an Eevee-Mae in DD's class.

daisypond · 28/09/2021 10:56

Definitely do not spell it Mae.

witchlikehazel · 28/09/2021 10:56

May is nice.

The rest I don't like. And yes OP you are right - too cutesy with Misty, too out-there with Artemis.

OuiOuiBonjour · 28/09/2021 10:58

I like Artemis May.

Misty May sounds a bit like a fabric rinse or Fabulosa room spray to me!

I do love the name Misty but pairing it with May makes it seem like more of an adjective than a name.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/09/2021 11:01

If you're settled on Artemis then can the nickname be Temmie?

rainbowdashsneeze · 28/09/2021 11:03

@Toastytoads

I prefer Foggy February to Misty May
😂😂😂
toastofthetown · 28/09/2021 11:05

I love Artemis and Artemis May sounds good together. While Misty May alone sounds like a shade of paint, it’s pretty rare I’m the times when she’s be referred to as nickname and middle name together so I wouldn’t worry that it sounds cutesy.

ignatiusjreilly · 28/09/2021 11:06

Have you thought about Misteeq instead of Misty? Misteeq May has a nice ring to it.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/09/2021 11:08

Now I have Scandalous as an ear worm.

Babydust13 · 28/09/2021 11:10

Ii thought Artemis was a boys name but I guess nowadays anything goes

Misty May sounds like a country singer

But if you like it why not go for it

OuiOuiBonjour · 28/09/2021 11:13

Artemis was a Goddess not a God. It's a female name by origin.

Can be used for boys too though.

If by ‘these days’ you mean Ancient Greece
DocAutumn · 28/09/2021 11:18

I prefer Artemis or 'Art' to 'Misty'.
