Misty May

Namethoughts92 · 28/09/2021 10:42

Just want to get thoughts from women who don't know me...

May was my grandmother's middle name so that's a definite.

I really like the name Artemis but it seems so grown up and old so I'm thinking Misty for a nickname.

Does Misty May sound too cutesy?

Thank you for your input!!!! Smile

You say May is your grandmother's middle name - can you not just use her first name if it's going to give a less twee end result?

Viviennemary · 28/09/2021 11:50

May is ok. But Misty sounds like a 1960s comic book character. Dire.

ILoveShula · 28/09/2021 11:50

Flaming June

TheWonderCat · 28/09/2021 11:51

What ever happened to "be kind"?

What happened to not trotting this out every time someone says something they don’t like.

Misty May is way too cutsey. It’s terrible. Not a big fan of Artemis although I did hear one being called in soft play recently.

Cutsey names are fine for toddlers and pets, not for grown ups. So I would use Misty as a nickname only.

Poor OP. It can't be nice to have your favourite names ripped to shreds on here!

Can I make some other suggestions for unusual yet lovely names?

I have Misty on my list for a potential daughter, and also the following names, in case you're interested OP.

Cherry
Tallulah
Neveah
Shelli
Candela

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/09/2021 11:51

Sorry OP, but it’s terrible.

I always think does this name pass the solicitor test. Would I go to a solicitor called Misty May. No.

People will call her Misty day.

Miss Misty May surname. Nope.

I’m not being unkind, your intentions are lovely, but it’s a terrible name for a child. I say this as someone with an unusual name.

ILoveShula · 28/09/2021 11:58

Artemis May Thoughts.

Artemis - people will think it's a boy's name because of Artemis Fowl
May - filler middle name

Artemis Thoughts is ok, Misty Thoughts is ok
Misty May is too much

Cherry-Mae has a lovely ring to it.

But if you love Misty May, OP, I think you should go for it. MN can be so snobby about names sometimes with their 'high court judge' test but I have a nephew called Reggie-Aron who works in a very professional role.

millzcrawf · 28/09/2021 12:03

Oh I love it !!

You never, ever really hear of the name Misty.. but I think it is so beautiful 💗

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/09/2021 12:06

Reggie is a very posh name though.

TuftyMarmoset · 28/09/2021 12:08

Misty May sounds like a porn star. Artemis is actually better.

ILoveShula · 28/09/2021 12:08

Cherri-Sunday sounds gorgeous

It gets worse Shock

Candela?!

Joystir59 · 28/09/2021 12:09

Misty May would be great for a hooker or strip artiste.

TuftyMarmoset · 28/09/2021 12:11

@ignatiusjreilly it’s not to my taste but the whole point of the name Nevaeh is that it’s heaven backwards, you can’t spell it Neveah!

WitchSharkadder · 28/09/2021 12:12

@ILoveShula

Cherri-Sunday sounds gorgeous
Well, I prefer Cherry with a y but I agree it's lovely.
ignatiusjreilly · 28/09/2021 12:14

@TuftyMarmoset Sorry, spelling is not my strong point, as evidenced by my suggestion of Misteeq.

BananaPB · 28/09/2021 12:17

It's fine to be Misty May if you never call her that in one go. Unfortunately that combination together conjures an image of paint samples or a Marvel character (they love alliteration) Does your surname start with an M?

RightOnTheEdge · 28/09/2021 12:19

I like Artemis. I'm another who thought it was a boy's name because of Artemis Fowl.
I'm not really keen on Misty and I really don't like Misty May but if May is a middle name and you don't say them together then it doesn't really matter.

You could just shout "Artemis May!" when she is in trouble Grin

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 28/09/2021 12:19

I used to look after a horse named Misty.

Misty May does sound like a name right out of the Grand National I'm afraid.

arield · 28/09/2021 12:20

@shellistar

What about Mae as a modern spin on the classic May?

I love the name and it's so popular now. My niece is Sierra-Mae and there is an Eevee-Mae in DD's class.

Awful!
alligatorpeardrop · 28/09/2021 12:21

I love it

Regularsizedrudy · 28/09/2021 12:23

@MayorGoodwaysChicken

But if you like it why not go for it

Because she’s not the one who will have to go through her life being called Misty fucking May.

This 😂
Blue4YOU · 28/09/2021 12:23

I haven’t read all the comments but Misty May sounds a bit like a pole dancer in a dodgy American film (sorry OP).

Namethoughts92 · 28/09/2021 12:25

@BananaPB no it doesn't start with M it's Fox Smile
