Misty May

Namethoughts92 · 28/09/2021 10:42

Just want to get thoughts from women who don't know me...

May was my grandmother's middle name so that's a definite.

I really like the name Artemis but it seems so grown up and old so I'm thinking Misty for a nickname.

Does Misty May sound too cutesy?

Thank you for your input!!!! Smile

Lovely

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/09/2021 12:28

Misty-Mae Fox is lovely

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/09/2021 12:28

Sorry. May.

Misty-May Fox. I wish MN had an edit button

MsTSwift · 28/09/2021 12:30

You can’t call her that! Sorry but no. I came up with some corkers when pregnant when I told my now 15 year old what she was nearly called she was absolutely horrified.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 28/09/2021 12:31

Sorry OP, but Misty May sounds like a nightclub stripper. Artemis is a lovely name and it is a female name.

CheshireChat · 28/09/2021 12:32

I'm pretty sure Misty is one of the baddies in Pokemon.

ILoveShula · 28/09/2021 12:34

shellistar

"What about Mae as a modern spin on the classic May?

I love the name and it's so popular now. My niece is Sierra-Mae and there is an Eevee-Mae in DD's class."

Mae is awful. Sierra? Better than the Cortina I suppose.

Eevee - Mae - inventive spelling of a bog standard name with a hyphen added for extra naffness

ChrissyPlummer · 28/09/2021 12:38

@CheshireChat

I'm pretty sure Misty is one of the baddies in Pokemon.
No, she owned the Aquatic Gym and had all water-based Pokemon. I think it was Jessie from Team Rocket who was the baddie. Eevee was the evolution Pokemon, could evolve into Flareon, Jolteon or Vapoureon in the original series.
megletthesecond · 28/09/2021 12:39

You are not naming a My Little Pony.

TurnUpTurnip · 28/09/2021 12:43

I didn't want to say it but can see someone else already had but yep misty may sounds like a porn stars name sorry !

mayblossominapril · 28/09/2021 12:51

Misty May is unfortunately a horses name, usually a grey.

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 14:39

Artemis would get shortened to Arte naturally. Misty is really too try hard.

FindingMeno · 28/09/2021 14:40

I love love love it.

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2021 14:52

@daisypond

Artemis is great. Artemis May is great. Misty May is not great. Misty as a general nickname for Artemis is fine —as long as you don’t call her Misty May. Artemis is definitely a girl’s name.
Yes, agree with this.

Artemis was a Greek goddess, it's definitely a female name.

Balonzette · 28/09/2021 15:11

I think it's pretty cutesy. Misty is a cool name, but May is SO overdone and boring that it makes the interesting Misty seem a bit twee/maybe even verging on a bit naff, imo. Can you keep Misty and lose May?

Blueberry40 · 28/09/2021 15:26

Misty is lovely and so is May but just not together. Misty May sounds like a burlesque dancer name- which is fine if that’s what you’re going for but otherwise I would avoid Grin

CheshireChat · 28/09/2021 16:08

ChrissyPlummer I bow to your superior knowledge Grin.

PeskyRooks · 28/09/2021 16:32

Misty is a gorgeous name. I know a Maisie May and the surname starts with an M too she's an adult and her name has not stopped her in any way being high up in her profession.

ignatiusjreilly · 28/09/2021 16:36

It certainly hasn't held back Misty Copeland!

ChrissyPlummer · 28/09/2021 16:38

Saturday morning hangover TV back in the day Grin
FreeBritnee · 28/09/2021 16:39

It sounds like one of those porn star names you generate by using the name of your cat and the month you were born.

StoatMilk · 28/09/2021 16:40

Misty is lovely, but can bear names that add on May usually spelled ‘Mae’, only suitable if you lived in Mid West America, circa 1900 Grin

Rosesareyellow · 28/09/2021 16:42

I second weather forecast.
Just Misty will do surely?
I do love names that are a bit different - but names that are ‘first name adjective’ ‘middle name noun’ are just really naff and cringe imo.

reprehensibleme · 28/09/2021 16:44

Artemis is beautiful.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 28/09/2021 16:48

If your surname is a noun, for the love of god don’t call your child an adjective.
