Lois.

Alice is dull.

LittleDonkeyKong · 15/09/2021 22:34

My 8 year old is Lois Smile
I think it's a bit more contemporary than Alice but it's still considered a classic name.

Heruka · 15/09/2021 22:36

Lois - cool, classy, interesting.
Alice - boring, twee, simpering.

Sorry that was a bit brutal

DramaAlpaca · 15/09/2021 22:38

Ooh, difficult one...

I really love Alice, but I'm going to say Lois because it's just that bit more interesting and really quite cool.

Starlight39 · 15/09/2021 22:39

Lois. I love Alice too though and was actually on our list as DP preferred more traditional names! So either I think are lovely but Lois edges it.

LouLion · 15/09/2021 22:49

Love Lois. Unusual. Sweet for a little girl, classy for a woman. Nice meaning. I also like Alice, but it's overused, which I think takes the shine off a bit. You might also like the Welsh Carys or Cerys - meaning love. Iris is also pretty.

Linnet · 15/09/2021 22:53

Alice, it’s timeless and classy.
I always feel Lois is not a real name.

LowbrowVictoriana · 15/09/2021 22:58

I always feel Lois is not a real name

But you're wrong, because it is 🙄

MaverickDanger · 15/09/2021 23:00

Literally came onto say what @LowbrowVictoriana said.

It’s up there with Grace and Anna for the “I can’t think of a name but Mumsnet says these are classic” brigade.

QueenJulian · 15/09/2021 23:05

I really like both names but I think Alice edges it. It’s classic but not over done, feminine but not girly. Also I’ve recently met two Alices who are both smart and lovely so that’s helped. Lois is great too and I’m hearing it more and more lately.

MrsFin · 15/09/2021 23:16

Depends on how you pronounce Lois.
Do you say Low-iss or Loyce?

hellsbells99 · 15/09/2021 23:38

Alice

IVflytrap · 15/09/2021 23:39

I like both but prefer Lois a fair bit as it's a bit more unusual. It always sounds quite cool to me, while Alice is more of a classic.

frenchfancy81 · 15/09/2021 23:40

Alice. Great name. Not simpering at all imo! Lois will only ever be Lane...

NatriumChloride · 15/09/2021 23:42

Definitely Alice. Such a pretty name.
Lois is a bit fussy and sound like it belongs to an older age group.

AutumnColours9 · 16/09/2021 00:29

Lois is nice. Alice seem old fashioned.

whatausername · 16/09/2021 00:43

Lois. Both are nice but Alice is starting to sound tired, it's quite popular atm.

ILoveShula · 16/09/2021 01:23

Alice

Crimsonripple · 16/09/2021 01:25

Alice. I'm personally not a fan of Lois.

AnyaMoondial · 16/09/2021 06:35

Lois

katielou987 · 16/09/2021 07:11

Alice

LittleDonkeyKong · 16/09/2021 07:38

@MrsFin
I pronounce it Low-iss. Only one person I know says Loyce and she is an old school teacher and apparently my pronunciation is wrong Grin

EdgeOfACoin · 16/09/2021 07:38

Prefer Alice.

With Lois I always think of the word 'lowing', like cattle mooing. But I think that's just me!

Is she Welsh by any chance? I'm Welsh and would say Loyce.

MrsFin · 16/09/2021 10:06

Isn't Lois Lane "Loyce Lane"? Or is that just me (and 2.5m other Welsh people) Grin
