Longer name for Tate?

I love Tate for a boy, but I feel like it may come off as a bit nickname-ish. I can't think of any longer name other than Tatum but don't love it. Thoughts?

I think Tate is lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2021 21:38

I don't think you need a longer name at all. It's an established first name that derives directly from the surname Tate. If you love it, use it!

TwinsandTrifle · 31/08/2021 21:38

Nathaniel can be Nate. I know that's not the same, but if you can think of anything like that sounds like Nathaniel with the T more emphasised

HoldingTheDoor · 31/08/2021 21:40

Tateandlyle? Tater?

Honestly I think Tate sounds fine by itself. It doesn't sound nickname-ish to me.

Mum2jenny · 31/08/2021 21:42

I’d find another name as I only can think of Tate and Lyle aka sugar. But that may just be me being weird.

Tate is fine on it's own

VanGoghsDog · 31/08/2021 22:13

Tate Modern?

MumofSpud · 31/08/2021 22:16

I love the name Tate - I don't think it is short for a longer name!
I would be Shock if Tate's friends at school even know 'Tate and Lyle'

squee123 · 31/08/2021 22:16

I'd go Nathaniel nn Tate personally

stopusingmyusernames · 31/08/2021 22:17

That's the name we've chosen for boy number 3 coming in January! I think it's lovely as it is

Lettitbee · 31/08/2021 22:18

I was trying to think of something suitable ending tate, but only came up with Estate or Prostate. Sorry not sure that's much help!

It is not. It’s as bad as Forrest.

Nathaniel works pretty well.

Dancingsmile · 31/08/2021 22:35

Tatum

MayContainNits · 31/08/2021 22:41

Gallery?

Tate is a name in its own right. Not everything has to be/have a nickname.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 31/08/2021 22:58

Oh come on, it's not as bad as Forrest

chocolateorangeinhaler · 01/09/2021 07:18

Yes go for it and if you have another call them Lyle.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 01/09/2021 07:50

I like the name Tate and it's a name on it's own. don't understand why people like a short name, only plan to use the short but then give their child a longer version of that name. It has never made sense to me.

Both my children have short names, both can be nn for other names but are standard names on their own too.

Fangdango · 01/09/2021 08:41

Like it too. If you need a longer name, maybe Taylor, Theodore or Thaddeus?

Ilovewheelychairs · 01/09/2021 08:43

I taught a Tathan once, who sometimes went by Tate.

This is why there are a million kids currently called Harrison. Instead of just Harry or Henry that it is the proper nickname for

I really don't like the name Harrison.
