Longer name for Tate?

I love Tate for a boy, but I feel like it may come off as a bit nickname-ish. I can't think of any longer name other than Tatum but don't love it. Thoughts?

I have a Tate. It's a great name and pretty rare. He's 19 and never met another on. He has a longer middle name though with 4 syllables.

toomuchlaundry · 01/09/2021 12:50

Is Tatum more a girl’s name, thinking of Tatum O’Neal?

LynetteScavo · 01/09/2021 12:53

I think it's great as a whole name. I once met brothers called Tate and York.

Florasteddy · 01/09/2021 12:59

I think it's a nice solid name in it's own right, but Nathaniel/Nathan, Theodore or Thaddeus could be longer birth certificate names if that's important to you.

impressivelycunty · 01/09/2021 13:03

I have an 18 yr old Tate - he's never met another one either! Old English for cheerful (though usually spelt Tait).

ShingleBeach · 01/09/2021 13:09

I associate Tatum as a girls name, and where I live Tate is viewed in association with the slave trade.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 13:29

Well Tate for me too does involve link to Tate and Lyle and slave trade but my references are The Tate and Tate Britain and the tate wing various places. Have never know a real life Tate but doubt that association would carry through in real life ?

brazenandstrange · 01/09/2021 13:36

The only ever thing that ever gets said to my 19yr old Tate is "Tate Modern"

And as @impressivelycunty says a lot of people tend to write Tait on birthday cards etc. 😬

TheWayTheLightFalls · 01/09/2021 13:41

Not my cup of tea but a name in its own right.

MrsEricBana · 01/09/2021 13:43

Yes it's good just as it is.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 13:49

You’d think there would be a male version of Tatiana. ? Maybe it’s one which has been mentioned.

Fangdango · 01/09/2021 14:02

There is Tatiano / Taziano actually. Or just Tazio which I think is nicer. But Tate alone is really growing on me.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 14:04

Oh interesting. Liking Tazio.

longerevenings · 01/09/2021 14:10

There is a Tate in my dcs class but we are in the USA where it is a more common name.

TatianaBis · 01/09/2021 21:48

Depends where you are, a London accent turns it into Tie’.

Works better with a US accent.

Enko · 03/09/2021 07:09

I like Tate as it is no need for a longer version

Svenalma · 03/09/2021 14:40

I really like Tate. It's unusual but strong and I don't think you need it as a diminutive.
