What do you think of this name? Surname is one syllable, common surname. 36 weeks pregnant and this is currently our top contender-what image does this name bring to mindSmile thank you!! (P.S other name on the list was Edie but feel it’s a bit too popular at the moment)

It reminds me of the character in Skins, I've never know another.
Nice name.

dizzylizzy08 · 15/08/2021 19:46

Lovely name!

ineedsun · 15/08/2021 19:46

Hunger Games? Wasn’t the flaky assistant from Capital called Effie?

Dontwatchfootball · 15/08/2021 19:47

Love it - one of the sweetest women I ever met was called Effie!

thesplashing · 15/08/2021 19:48

Lovely!

Is there a longer version so she could have a choice as she got older?

drpet49 · 15/08/2021 19:49

Sounds made up

Scarby9 · 15/08/2021 19:50

The Effie I know (aged 24) is Euphemia.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/08/2021 19:50

(Mrs) Euphemia Doubtfire.

muddyford · 15/08/2021 19:51

Sounds like an abbreviated swear word.

Gemma2019 · 15/08/2021 19:51

Wasn't Effy in Skins just a nickname for Elizabeth though? DD2 has a friend called Ophelia and gets called Effie too.

I think it's ok as a nickname but not overkeen as an actual name.

mintylovely · 15/08/2021 19:51

It's a pet name for Euphemia but I do know a Fiona who goes by Effie.

Chunkymenrock · 15/08/2021 19:54

Sounds like effing. Or F.E. Really dislike it.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/08/2021 20:00

What about these, similar feel:

Ellie (could have longer versions, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elodie)
Ella
Emma
Esme
Etta
Eilidh (rhymes with Kayleigh)

Chunkymenrock · 15/08/2021 20:06

Or Eithne?

Kanaloa · 15/08/2021 20:09

Reminds me of skins too, think that ages me pretty clearly! I was so jealous of Effie. Don’t know why looking back to be honest, poor girl was a total mess.

I think she was called Elizabeth though and it was just her nickname. I don’t mind it as a nickname, don’t love it by itself.

BeenThruMoreThanALilBit · 15/08/2021 20:09

The only Effie I know is an elderly Israeli Jewish man, full name Ephraim.

SvartePetter · 15/08/2021 20:10

My DP met someone at a baby group with a baby Effie. He came home chocked "they named their baby effin? How is that allowed"?

Apeirogon · 15/08/2021 20:10

I really like it.

emmathedilemma · 15/08/2021 20:11

Not for me. Sounds like it should be a nn and a bit ugly as a name in its own right.

isthismylifenow · 15/08/2021 20:12

All I could think reading the title is that was what we called a condom when I was at school. F. E.

So for me, a definite no.

Katefoster · 15/08/2021 20:13

Love Effie. I know a woman in her 60s with it and it really suits her

Roonilwazlib1 · 15/08/2021 20:15

I really like it. It must be on the rise as I've seen people post about it on here a few times recently and also seen a few people on insta (I'd say influencers but they have smaller followings) who have used it in the past year Smile

Reminds me of Effie from Skins like a lot of pp have said. I love the idea of it being a nickname for Ophelia

Spongeboob · 15/08/2021 20:15

@CoffeeBeansGalore

(Mrs) Euphemia Doubtfire.
I thought it was Euphegenia Doubtfire?
Rtmhwales · 15/08/2021 20:15

Both Ophelia and Effie are on my top ten favorite girls names.. you've just given me a way to use both if I ever have a girl, thanks!

Goingoutinthecar · 15/08/2021 20:15

I have an Effie, It’s from Elspeth. (Which is Elizabeth basically).
