What do you think of this name? Surname is one syllable, common surname. 36 weeks pregnant and this is currently our top contender-what image does this name bring to mindSmile thank you!! (P.S other name on the list was Edie but feel it’s a bit too popular at the moment)

Effie Trinket, Hunger Games

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 15/08/2021 20:20

Only Effie I know is the character that Jennifer Hudson played in Dreamgirls

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 15/08/2021 20:20

I like it but it makes me think of The Hunger Games or Dreamgirls

letsallbemermaids · 15/08/2021 20:21

I prefer Esther/Essie.

21Bee · 15/08/2021 20:22

I really loved it but my husband wasn’t convinced with the Skins link. We ultimately went with Elspeth. I did see Effie in a top baby names for 2021 list recently which surprised me!

JaggedLittlePilI · 15/08/2021 20:24

I know one and have always thought it sounds like a family nickname not a real name. Mind you, they made up their older daughter's name too...

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/08/2021 20:28

@Spongeboob - I stand corrected! However I believe in a tale Mrs Doubtfire told, her husband called her Effie 😊

Madlyash · 15/08/2021 20:37

Seems to be a bit marmite, as expected, but overall more positive than negative. Thought about putting a longer name on the birth certificate but unsure as to what we could use that would be stretching. Surprised to hear it was on a list of popular names for 2021 too.

John Ruskin's wife was Effie, and the story is that he couldn't consummate the marriage because she had pubic hair. He had only seen paintings and statues of naked women.

Greenbuttonsbluebuttons · 15/08/2021 20:55

Love it.

FedNlanders · 15/08/2021 20:55

@Chunkymenrock

Sounds like effing. Or F.E. Really dislike it.
I just hear F.E
Buttons294749 · 15/08/2021 20:56

A bit blah but fine.
I know one age 35-40 and one age 2.
Bith short for a longer name

Buttons294749 · 15/08/2021 20:57

(One is short for felicity)

Frazzled2207 · 15/08/2021 20:57

Like it
I do think hunger games tho

ClaraThePigeon · 15/08/2021 20:57

It's awful. It makes me think of someone swearing.

viques · 15/08/2021 20:58

Sounds like a slightly dim and put upon underparlourmaid in a not very well written Victorian novella.

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/08/2021 21:01

Effie Nell.

Lokdok · 15/08/2021 21:02

Effie just makes me think of the nasty druggie character in skins.

lannistunut · 15/08/2021 21:05

Not very keen, as it reminds me of Efes beer. Also a bit like f-ing.

Sorry, I hate not liking the name but I suppose that is why you're asking!

MumofSpud · 15/08/2021 21:07

I like Effie but .... I would use it as a nickname for a 'proper' name (but not sure what!)

VienneseWhirligig · 15/08/2021 21:07

We have an apprentice at work known as Effie, but her real name is Stephanie. Apparently her older brother couldn't say her name properly.

PeigiSu · 15/08/2021 21:07

I’ve known it short for Euphemia and Eleftheria but I think you could conceivably have Elizabeth, Elspeth, or anything starting with F!

MuggleStudiesResearchProject · 15/08/2021 21:08

I really like it. Would use it as a nickname for Josephine.

TooMinty · 15/08/2021 21:19

My friend's mum was called this - short for Euphemia. She was lovely so I have very positive thoughts about the name but I can't imagine calling a baby Euphemia!

DramaAlpaca · 15/08/2021 21:53

God no. It's so fluffy and insubstantial, and it's twee.
