Love both names and struggling to decide. Which would you choose? x

Lily

RiaOverTheRainbow · 05/08/2021 11:42

Alice

dannydyerismydad · 05/08/2021 13:17

All the Alice's I know are great. Bags of personality, forthright, cheeky and fun to be around.

Lily is a pretty name, but there are loads of them around. Most of them are double barrelled though Lily-May, Lily-Rose, Lily-Grace. Lily alone is more unusual and pretty.

helpmum2003 · 05/08/2021 13:23

Alice.

Lily is also lovely but currently the double barrelling with other names puts me off a bit. You could go for Elizabeth and then choose Lily/Libby/Lizzie/Betty as your nn.

Alice

Lily is lovely but Alice is lovelier

Heh1991 · 06/08/2021 01:06

Lily!

Themeparklover · 06/08/2021 03:40

don't like lily as a lily bullied me I have a cousin clled Alice however always think of the song Alice who tf is Alice, but I would prefer lily spelt Lillie

danascully96 · 06/08/2021 04:26

Alice is a tad frumpy IMO, so I prefer Lily. Both nice names, though, and wonderfully delicate.

LimeRedBanana · 06/08/2021 05:42

How can a name be ‘wonderfully delicate’ and ‘frumpy’? Grin

Threelittlebirds1 · 06/08/2021 06:42

I think both are lovely names, you can't go wrong with either.
I prefer Lily, but would say Alice is maybe the safer choice - it's classic, can suit anyone and is probably a 'stronger' name (as ridiculous as that is).
I disagree that Lily is dated - it's still in the top 10!
The names go nicely together so you could use one as a mn or for a future dd.
And I know you didn't ask for this, but I can't help but think Emily seems like the bridge between the two names - the softness of Lily but same vibe as Alice.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 06/08/2021 06:58

Lily. I have one so am I'm not impartial. But Alice always makes me think of a song my dad used to sing about 'Alice the camel'

Onlinedilema · 06/08/2021 07:07

Both lovely names so my advice would be this:
Does being called A Surname cause any problems? For example is her surname a noun? If so I would avoid a name beginning with the letter A. Which sounds better with her surname?

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 06/08/2021 10:26

Alice

danascully96 · 07/08/2021 01:29

@LimeRedBanana frumpy = dowdy, which a name can be, while also possessing the talent of being “wonderfully delicate.” Alice is a light name like Lily, but Alice sounds a tad old fashioned.

Not everything has to be love or hate — I see the beauty in Alice, even if I prefer Lily.

Alice

CruCru · 07/08/2021 10:58

I like Alice. There are so many children called Lily and I don’t like the flower

Evanna13 · 08/10/2021 23:24

They are both very popular and to my ear very light girly names.
To me Lily is prettier.

BeKindBeYou · 09/10/2021 05:52

Lily

SugarPlum10 · 09/10/2021 11:01

Lily is very popular and a little dated, but more than that won’t suit every girl - it’s a delicate, willowy style of name to me.

Surely the person defines the name? Are you saying that all Lilys that are born are going to be soft and delicate because they are called Lily? I know a very strong, self assured Lily and you wouldn’t call her willowy in a million years.

Derbee · 12/10/2021 14:28

I think Alice is awful. So I’d say Lily, although it’s very common

BeKindBeYou · 12/10/2021 14:47

Lily :)

Alice. Timeless classic.
