Lily

LimeRedBanana · 04/08/2021 21:01

Lily will sound dated to the next generation due to its high popularity right now.

Alice is lovely and more timeless.

Phoebesgift · 04/08/2021 21:03

Alice 100%. Lily seems to me a bit wet.

Chunkymenrock · 04/08/2021 21:07

Lily. Alice is such a wet, drippy, weak name.

Tiddlywinkly · 04/08/2021 21:08

I like Alice. Not keen on Lilly/Lily. Too popular/ bland. My great grandmother was Lilian which is a bit different?

Tiddlywinkly · 04/08/2021 21:10

Disagree with Chunky. Not wet or weak at all.

shapes1 · 04/08/2021 21:12

Alice

Alice.

BusySittingDown · 04/08/2021 22:09

I really like both of them.

However, I would pick Lily personally but only because DD has a friend called Alice (she also has a friend called Lily actually) but every time she mentions Alice I want to shout "Alice! Who the fuck is Alice?"

There's not many people that are as immature as me though. Plus they probably don't remember the song. Blush

Longdistance · 04/08/2021 22:12

Alice. I have a feisty one.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/08/2021 22:21

Tough one. Alice is a timeless classic so would usually be my answer - it's definitely the "safe" option of the two. But if you don't care about popularity, Lily has a pretty sound and surprisingly for a flower name feels quite classic and not too twee imo (more Rose than Poppy/Daisy in style for me).

I'd decide based on the ONS statistics for your area (as popularity varies around the country), since I assume both work well with your surname and middle name choices.

Alice

BunnyRuddington · 04/08/2021 22:27

Agree that Lily was very popular in the 00s so it might be a bit like naming a baby Donna in the 80s, nothing wrong with it just a bit out of step with all of her friends and all of the others with her name will be about 12 years older.

MMM2 · 04/08/2021 22:29

Alice.

MojoJojo71 · 04/08/2021 22:29

Alice

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 04/08/2021 22:31

Lily
Alice is too little girl twee in my head.

DeRigueurMortis · 04/08/2021 22:31

Alice

ghislaine · 04/08/2021 23:49

Alice is more classic while Lily is more popular. I would go for the option that won’t date. I would also avoid the Lilibet factor.

Pottedpalm · 05/08/2021 00:18

Lily

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 05/08/2021 00:28

There are so many y/ie/ee ending girls’ names that I’m put off of them all. They are all blending into one twee eeeee sound.

Alice is great.

Purplesparkle34 · 05/08/2021 02:57

I love the name Alice. It’s my daughters middle name. I wanted it to be her first name but DH wasn’t keen.

Pallisers · 05/08/2021 03:01

Alice. I have one and she told me recently she has never met another one (seems amazing to me).

I love Lily too. You really can't go wrong here.

other names I like are Juliet, Sylvia and Clara

WasThisSexist · 05/08/2021 03:14

Lily

Asherline · 05/08/2021 03:37

@BusySittingDown who the fuck is Alice 😂 exactly!!

I did prefer lily but it has been overused to death And has removed the prettiness. It used to be o what a gorgeous name, now it's which of the 10 Lily's you know.

QOD · 05/08/2021 03:39

I absolutely love Lily BUT it’s going to be beyond popular this year … Alice Alicia Elise Alys are super nice

I’d go for Liberty/Libby myself
