… naming your child Percy because of the Percy Pig association? 🐷

Zarene · 03/08/2021 13:08

No issue with the pigs, but I'd avoid for the penis association (among other reasons).

Sorry! There are better names.

cariadlet · 03/08/2021 13:10

There's also the Percy the Park keeper association.
But I think I'd be more worried about it being a slang term for penis.

Giveszerofox · 03/08/2021 13:13

Point the Percy at the porcelain 🍆

Tal45 · 03/08/2021 13:13

I don't like it at all.

Isbobmyuncle · 03/08/2021 13:14

I’ve never heard of it being used as slang for penis Blush

@Tal45

I don't like it at all.
Thanks but that wasn’t the question

Another one that is more concerned about the 🍆 than the 🐖

DoucheCanoe · 03/08/2021 13:20

I've never heard it being used as slang for penis so that may be regional?

I wouldn't avoid a name based on a popular sweet.

Marcipex · 03/08/2021 13:22

I’ve heard it as slang for penis so I wouldn’t use it.

bloominglovelyorange · 03/08/2021 13:34

Great name, I know a little Percy and he suits his name so well
It doesn't raise eyebrows these days, there's far more unusual names in the class to be honest

As for slang for penis, I've read threads on here about how the names Peter, Ralph and John are all slang for penis. I really wouldn't focus on that. I know two boys called Woody (great name) and many Williams (William literally had the word Willy in it). Don't let people put you off Percy. It's a lovely name

user1493494961 · 03/08/2021 13:38

Penis association.

whatausername · 03/08/2021 13:54

Penis

NuffSaidSam · 03/08/2021 13:56

I think Percy as a term for penis is quite old fashioned so not likely to be a massive problem but it would put me off tbh.

backtoworkigooo · 03/08/2021 13:57

Never heard of the 🍆 association and the it thing wouldn't put me off at all I love the name Percy. I knew one once at work he was a lovely charming man.

MilduraS · 03/08/2021 14:02

Never heard it being used for penis but the first thing I thought of was Percy Weasley from the Harry Potter books rather than the sweets.

TheVanguardSix · 03/08/2021 14:04

I’ve never heard of it being used as slang for penis

Me neither!

To answer your question, not at all, OP. Nor would I associate it with Percy the engine from Thomas the Tank (DS19 was stark raving mad about Thomas... he may have forgotten all of their names, but I haven't Grin).

I associate Percy with a wonderful elderly gentleman who was a patient of my husband's. Percy and his amazing wife Hanna. Both gone now but years ago, even in their 90s, they were sharp as tacks and just lovely people. So that's the first person who comes to mind when I hear the name Percy.
We worry, when naming our kids, about all sorts of associations that actually don't ever come into the equation at all in reality.
If I were to meet your little boy Percy at the school gates, I would think just about that: Your little boy Percy. Smile
I have an Alec and actually, I doubt very much that anyone ever thinks about Alec Baldwin. Or maybe they do! Who cares?! You name your little one Percy if it's the name you love.

cushioncovers · 03/08/2021 14:05

Percy was my exh nickname for his penis. Also I'm old enough to remember Percy from the tv show Blackadder, he was a hapless pillock in the show. Grin

BaronessBomburst · 03/08/2021 14:05

Point Percy at the porcelain.
Means going for pee. My grandad used to say it all the time.

emmathedilemma · 03/08/2021 15:23

No and i've also never heard it used for penis apart from on this forum so i wonder if that's a regional thing.

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 03/08/2021 15:24

@Isbobmyuncle

I’ve never heard of it being used as slang for penis Blush
🤣🤣 neither have I
tywysoges · 03/08/2021 15:31

Not because of the pig association but because Percy Weasley, I really dislike his personality.

mamaoffourdc · 03/08/2021 15:33

I've never heard of the Percy penis!

Timetoreflect · 03/08/2021 15:35

I think of Percy Filth which was used to mean sex in The Lovers

toastofthetown · 03/08/2021 15:40

No I wouldn't. I wouldn't be concerned about the penis thing either. Literally the only place I've ever heard that is on the Mumsnet baby name section! Percy is growing quickly in popularity so the associations clearly aren't off putting to a lot of parents.

Mumsnet really hates the name Percy though.

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2021 15:43

I agree
