1 month to go, we know it’s a girl and have a final shortlist but can’t narrow it down! Both English but Irish parents which is why there’s a couple of Irish names in there.

Please vote and help me!

Caoimhe
Ayla
Maeve
Croia (Cree-ah)
Nell
Eliza

Eliza is the only usable name there. But very nice.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 29/07/2021 08:44

Love Caoimhe, Maeve, Nell.

Like Eliza.

Ayla is ok.

Don't like Croia, but maybe just because I haven't heard it before.

20viona · 29/07/2021 08:44

Nell best by far

sarah13xx · 29/07/2021 08:51

Ayla
Maeve - LOVE
Croia (Cree-ah)

Caoimhe - absolutely love this name.

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 29/07/2021 09:26

The only one I like is Eliza, so 10/10 for that.

Wanttocry · 29/07/2021 09:31

Speaking as someone with a name that people regularly cannot pronounce or spell, if you live in England I think Caoimhe and Croia will be difficult and she’ll always have to correct people on it. Which she may not mind, but it can be a pain.

Maeve is my favourite I think.

Amz6219 · 29/07/2021 09:48

Ah that’s my worry @Wanttocry, don’t like the ‘anglicised’ versions and think it might cause problems 😣

Caoimhe - 6/10 - could be difficult to pronounce.
Ayla - 5/10 - nice but popular too
Maeve - 7/10 - nice name but prefer Mavie
Croia (Cree-ah) - 2/10 - not keen sorry
Nell - 8/10 - nice name and like Nellie too
Eliza - 10/10 - lovely name and my fave from your list.

So in order of best to worst in my opinion..

Eliza
Nell
Maeve
Caoimhe
Ayla
Croia

Love the name Nell, but I'd probably use it as a nn for Helen or Eleanor.
Eliza is fine too, but just not a personal favourite.
I don't really know how to pronounce Ayla.
Of the Irish names I like Maeve (though I prefer the spelling Méabh it will cause more problems outside Ireland). Also really like Caoimhe, but only if it's said correctly. It's often mispronounced somewhat even in Ireland, it's a difficult one to say properly unless you're an Irish speaker really.
I dislike Croia, it sounds a bit made-up to me - not by you I know.
Sorry, didn't do the marks out of ten bit, I'd be here all day Grin

Haha thanks @LizzieAnt - I only like to have number ratings because I am a geek and want to gauge the mean, median and mode :-D

*Nell as a short form of Helen, rather than a nn, I mean.

Demilunary · 29/07/2021 13:37

Caoimhe, Maeve or Nell.

LizzieAnt · 29/07/2021 13:41

Oops, cross-post. Sorry, I might have messed up the maths for you so Grin

Holly60 · 29/07/2021 14:06

Nell 6

Amz6219 · 29/07/2021 15:10

I didn't know that about a baby Alpaca @BlessedBeTheFruitCake so I think Croia might be out of the window! It's all I would think of ... :-D

How to pronounce this one? Never seen it before - Caoimhe

Nell is cute but agree would work better as NN so when they are older they may want something more professional if that makes sense and Nell for people they are close to x
