1 month to go, we know it’s a girl and have a final shortlist but can’t narrow it down! Both English but Irish parents which is why there’s a couple of Irish names in there.

Please vote and help me!

Caoimhe
Ayla
Maeve
Croia (Cree-ah)
Nell
Eliza

@wegoagain It’s Kee-va (think some pronounce it Kwee-va but I’d say Kee-va)

Ayla- ok
Maeve -dont like
Croia (Cree-ah) -dont like
Nell- ok
Eliza-ok

AustinPowerful · 29/07/2021 19:31

I would not use Croia or Caoimhe if you live in England as your daughter will spend her whole life correcting pronunciation and spelling out her name for people- I have a very Welsh name and hate it for this reason!

PurBal · 29/07/2021 19:31

Caoimhe and Maeve are my favourites

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/07/2021 20:00

Adore Nell, Eliza and Maeve…would really struggle to pick🥴 at a PUSH I would go Maeve…no Eliza…

Undervaluedandsad · 29/07/2021 20:07

Maeve and Nell.

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/07/2021 20:11

Love Maeve

I also really like Caoimhe as long as its pronounced keeva not queeva

I like Nell but only as a nn

Eliza is nice but a bit meh

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/07/2021 21:39

Maeve is lovely - simple, pretty and a nod to her heritage but well known/easy to spell for non- Irish folk. I also love Nell but it's a very much a nn for classic Eleanor/Helena for me, a bit trendy as a given name .

Less keen on your other choices sorry - they are either too trendy for my taste or quite likely to have spelling/pronunciation issues outside Ireland imo.

Chilldonaldchill · 29/07/2021 22:26

Caoimhe - 5/10. It's pretty but I think there are so many Evas around that the similar sound would put me off
Ayla - 1/10. I wouldn't know if this is AY - la or a creative spelling of Isla. I'd guess at the latter. I don't think it looks nice at all
Maeve - 2/10. Feels old lady ish to me.
Croia (Cree-ah) - 5/10. I like the sound of this but not so keen on the look of it
Nell - 8/10. Lovely.
Eliza - 8/10. Lovely.

Forstarters · 29/07/2021 22:30

Caoimhe - to someone non Irish it sounds like ‘Coming’ in an Irish accent

user1493494961 · 29/07/2021 22:32

Eliza, Maeve or Nell

drpet49 · 29/07/2021 22:32

Eliza

Heh1991 · 29/07/2021 22:34

Nell is just gorgeous!!! Please pick that, quote unusual but easy to spell and pronounce, suits all ages too- cute girl, boss woman and sweet older lady! 10/10!

MumofSpud · 29/07/2021 22:42

Caoimhe 4
Ayla 1
Maeve 8
Croia (Cree-ah) 0
Nell 8
Eliza 7

I still love Aoife - I know v v common in Ireland but don't know any in England!

Amz6219 · 30/07/2021 07:33

We already have an Aoife in the family @MumofSpud (albeit in Ireland) 😩 but I do love it!

Maeve or Eliza

Nell is awful - I just think of it as knell and that’s a horrible connotation!

Demilunary · 30/07/2021 07:42

But you get this is your own incomprehension, right?
Marlena1 · 30/07/2021 08:06

I love Croia (realise I'm in the minority((also Criona)). There may be pronounciation issues in UK though I know. I really like Nell which surprises me as to me it's in the old lady category.

TreeWizard · 30/07/2021 08:18

Caoimhe 5
Ayla 6
Maeve 8
Croia 3
Nell 7

MrsBungle · 30/07/2021 08:26

I like maeve and nell. Not that keen on the others.

Quercus3 · 30/07/2021 14:30

Caoimhe - 7
Croia - 1
Maeve - 8
Eliza - 9
Ayla - 2
Nell - 9

Pemba · 30/07/2021 15:06

Eliza is my favourite, but I do think it's quite arrogant to state, as one of the first replies you got did, that it is 'the only useable name'!

I do like Nell, but it feels as though it should be short for an official name, Eleanor, Helen, or maybe Penelope. Or there is the Dutch name Nella I think. Nell feels a bit unfinished as a standalone name.

Not mad on any of the others, TBH . Caoimhe is OK. If you're living in mainland UK you may find yourself repeatedly explaining the pronunciation though!

JellyBabiesFan · 30/07/2021 15:08

Caoimhe WTF?

Pemba · 30/07/2021 15:14

It's a reasonably well known (in UK) Irish name, JellyBabies. Pronounced Keeva.
