Emily vs Natalie

We're deciding between Emily June (we would call her Emmy when she is young) and Natalie June. Which name would you choose? Any thoughts for us to consider? We aren't worried about popularity.

Emily.

OverTheWater · 09/07/2021 20:38

I love both but I thought Natalie was a name more associated with babies born around Christmas.

So the choice would depend on d.o.b. for me.

Classica · 09/07/2021 20:51

Natalie is lovely. SO much nicer than dreary old Emily.

35andThriving · 09/07/2021 20:53

Emily June sounds good.

Middlesboroughgirl · 09/07/2021 20:54

Both, either, lovely!

WisestIsShe · 09/07/2021 21:04

Natalie. Both names are nice but I think Natalie might be more unusual.

Kanaloa · 09/07/2021 21:07

Both really lovely. I love June as the middle name as well. I think I would go with Natalie June if it was me, but I don’t think you can go wrong either way really.

Dontdripme · 09/07/2021 21:08

Emily is such a boring name. Natalie is beautiful

De88 · 09/07/2021 21:09

If you're not worried about popularity, either name, they're both lovely. In our corner of the world though Emily is so, so, SO common we know an Emily with the blonde hair, the Emily with the brown hair, Emily with the curly hair, Chinese Emily and Emily with the dog...

Aquamarine1029 · 09/07/2021 21:09

Natalie is ok, but I absolutely HATE the nn Nat, which she will invariably be called by loads of people.

cariadlet · 09/07/2021 21:13

Love Emily. Not keen on Natalie.

RuthW · 09/07/2021 21:19

Natalie.

I much prefer Natty to Emmy.

silvergoldstars · 09/07/2021 21:21

Natalie is a bit 80s, it’s also frequently pronounced ‘nah uh lih’ which isn’t very nice.

NotRainingToday · 09/07/2021 21:26

My DD is Natalie, sometimes Nattie but mostly the full name. She is 16, it's quite an unusual name in her generation/school, I think she has met two others.

DotDotDotDotDot · 09/07/2021 21:33

I agree Natalie does seem a bit 80’s to me. I prefer Natalia, it seems fresher somehow and the T is more emphasised so pronunciation sounds is better in my accent. Emily is nice, as you say you don’t mind about it’s popularity.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/07/2021 21:45

Emily - only because Emmy is a much nicer nn than Nat. Emily is also slightly more classic than Natalie imo , although much more popular now. Like a pp I do really like Natalia - but that still doesn't solve the "Nat" problem.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 09/07/2021 21:50

Emily. Natalie is dated.

Saltyslug · 09/07/2021 21:55

Emmy is lovely

Chilldonaldchill · 09/07/2021 22:55

I prefer Emily. I know it's more popular but if you don't care about that it's a really lovely classic name.
I know several Natalies and all of them get called their full name (no Nats) but, despite the fact that they range from 7-60 in she, it feels more dated and less classic to me.
I think I would feel different about Natalia or Natasha.

WrongWayApricot · 09/07/2021 22:59

Natalie

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2021 23:15

Natalie for me.

ILoveStickers · 10/07/2021 05:57

I know so many Emilys of my age (mid 30s) that it's a bit of a "mum" name for me now.

Natalie is a bit more special. But if it was me I'd probably pick Natalia.

roxisolerenshaw · 10/07/2021 06:43

Emily is a lovely name. Like others have said Natalie is dated but I do like the suggestion of Natalia by a PP.

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/07/2021 06:50

Prefer Natasha, nn Tasha, if you want something similar.

daisypond · 10/07/2021 06:58

Natalie.
