Emily vs Natalie

We're deciding between Emily June (we would call her Emmy when she is young) and Natalie June. Which name would you choose? Any thoughts for us to consider? We aren't worried about popularity.

Natalie is beautiful

Emily is fine, but massively overpriced used.

Chunkymenrock · 08/08/2021 19:53

Natalie by a mile. Emily is as boring and dull a name as it's possible to be. Natalie is pretty and unusual.

CovidCorvid · 08/08/2021 19:57

The only Natalie I know is called Tilly which I love.

mum2jakie · 08/08/2021 20:11

Natalie is very dated and likely to be viewed as an old woman's name when your child is a teenager whereas Emily is more of a classic name.

PlainJane1000 · 08/08/2021 20:21

I love Natalie but as pp have said, hate nn Nat and the only 2 I have known have been called Nat. If that could be fully avoided it would def be on my shortlist for a DD.
In your case, I'd save the decision between the two until you meet her, I'm sure then one will feel more 'right'.

Emily has been done to death for years. Natalie is nice and less well used

senoritarita · 08/08/2021 21:16

Natalie is pretty. If pronounced correctly

Which invariably it wont.

Nah-a-lee

Emily nice. Emmy not nice.
Maybe just Em?

WaitinginVain · 08/08/2021 21:36

Natalie by a mile, Emily is just so boring. It has been around a while, my DM wanted to call me Natalie Wink, but it's a beautiful name and I don't think sounds dated like some. Emily was everywhere in the 90's tbh Hmm. The French spelling, Nathalie is lovely too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/08/2021 21:38

I’m not sure. I love both.
Although I’ve never met a nice Natalie.

Tell a lie one was lovely. The rest were all nasty bitches and full of themselves.
Known only 2 Emily’s both were lovely.

So I think I’d say Emily. Plus I’d rather have the NN Em as an adult than Nat.

Flutteringwings · 08/08/2021 21:40

Emily. Really classic and still pretty.

I would prefer Natalia or Natasha to Natalie.

Natasha also has the lovely nickname Tasha which I think is very cute, and far nicer than Nat or Natty nicknames which personally I dislike.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/08/2021 21:41

I’d be wanting to pronounce Nathalie as Nath-a-Lee rather than Nat-a-Lee.

danascully96 · 09/08/2021 22:15

Natalie nn Tally or Talia Smile

Violetlavenders · 09/08/2021 23:32

Natalie. Beautiful interesting and memorable.

Emily is soooo boring through overuse.

Rockmehardplace · 10/08/2021 14:52

Natalie

LastSummerHere · 10/08/2021 14:57

Urgh hate the name Natalie. But then I used to know a bully with that name so I just couldn't like it. I don't like the sound of it either when it is pronounced without the T as it mostly is...Emily is such a classic name and much prettier. How about Emilie if you want to combine the two?

Polecat03 · 10/08/2021 15:44

Emily, or Natalia.

SuperSketchy · 10/08/2021 17:13

Natalie! It has more character. I find Emily bland and insipid, although I know Emilys who are anything but!

ofwarren · 10/08/2021 17:15

I really can't choose, they are both lovely with the middle name June!

MargosKaftan · 10/08/2021 17:23

I like both, but I know so many little girls called Emily (theres 3 on our road!) but no little Natalie's.

cptartapp · 10/08/2021 17:26

Natalie by a mile.

RolloTomassi · 10/08/2021 17:40

Emily, no comparison! It's a classic for a reason. There were loads of Natalies in my generation, never liked it.

RuthW · 10/08/2021 17:45

Natalie. There are far too many Emilys about
