Nevaeh as a girl's name.. Yay or nay?

I'm currently expecting a DD and my DP likes the name Nevaeh but I think is sounds really tacky and well...made up.
It's Heaven spelt backwards... I work at a nursery and there are 2 babies with that name!
I prefer traditional solid names with meaning and substance behind them, rather than made up sounding ones.
Imagine the poor kids having to spend their lives repeating and explaining their name, having to spelt it out endlessly when people don't "get" it?

The heaven thing always makes me think of death 💀

MrsXx4 · 01/07/2021 16:47

I actually think the sound of the name is quite nice but the heaven backwards thing is not great.

thethoughtfox · 01/07/2021 16:48

It's very popular on that American Teen Moms programme.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 01/07/2021 16:49

Awful name.

Comedycook · 01/07/2021 16:51

@Kanaloa

To be honest I don’t think I’d want my kids to socialise with any family who thinks someone’s name makes them ‘trash.’ I mean what a horribly nasty thing to say, you’re referring to human beings (who, by the way, don’t choose their own names) as rubbish.

I don’t particularly like the name Nevaeh. It’s just not my cup of tea. Do I think it’s tacky and it makes people trash? No.

I wouldn't call someone trash but I can think it's tacky whilst still being pleasant and judging that person on the content of their character over anything else.

However, when choosing a name for your child, I think it's wise to consider how many people view it

AnxiousWeirdo · 01/07/2021 16:58

It's one of those names that always sticks out when I think of ridiculous names... But there's that many children called it now that to their generation it'll be a normal almost every day name

Synchrony · 01/07/2021 17:11

Interesting about the pronunciation. I always thought it was "Neeve-ah" (like Eva with an N). So I did think it was similar to Niamh.

gurglebelly · 01/07/2021 17:15

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

I love it. However on here If your kids haven't got posh names such as Otillie. Arabella. Octavia. Juliette or Henrietta its "tacky".
Come on, it's Heaven spelt backwards. What next? Legna? It's super tacky and smacks of trying (and failing) to be unique

(And no I don't like Ottilie etc either)

Ninkanink · 01/07/2021 17:17

Not good.

Ninkanink · 01/07/2021 17:18

@bestbeforedateexpired

On on on! sorry, I mean no no no!
I see what you did there Grin
AfterSchoolWorry · 01/07/2021 17:22

No. It's a name that draws ridicule.

Lettuceforlunch · 01/07/2021 17:27

I once read about what someone called the high court judge test on here. Could you picture your future DD as a high court judge with that name?

funnyoldonion · 01/07/2021 17:29

For the love of God no, it's hideous

ginghamstarfish · 01/07/2021 17:29

Awful. A child with this name will have a lifetime (well, until they change it to something better) of no-one being able to pronounce it, and having to spell it EVERY SINGLE TIME they say it or give it over the phone.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/07/2021 17:29

It's just occurred to me that Anne Hegerty's name backwards is Ytre Gehenna - 'ytre' being Norwegian for 'outer'.

CallMeGregorSamsa · 01/07/2021 17:42

From the spelling, I thought it woukd ne pronounced 'Never'. Nevah nevah nevah have I evah each evah. Heaven backwards does sound satanic! Spelling backwards has that association.
How about: Skye, Celeste, Nerina, Ava, Vanessa? If appropriate, Nilofar?

CallMeGregorSamsa · 01/07/2021 17:43

*would be
*evah evah evah!

Crankley · 01/07/2021 17:45

Hideous.

anon12345678901 · 01/07/2021 17:45

I don't like it as a name so I wouldn't name my child it, however if you did then that's what matters. I do think with names it is important to think of when they're older and how they will sound.

Spinningaround21 · 01/07/2021 17:47

Urgh no.

Kottbullar · 01/07/2021 17:48

It's the Heaven spelled backwards thing I don't get. Why is that good?
Also surely if it's Heaven backwards it should be pronounced Nevah not Nevayah.

TBH I feel the same when people use a noun from a language they don't speak as a child's name, again why. If you wouldn't use it in your own language why use it in a random one HmmConfused

Enko · 01/07/2021 17:49

I don't like it but I would count it a fairly normal name these days.

I do like Nayvee and I know many won't. They are similar in my view.

Garraty47 · 01/07/2021 17:52

Awful.

ivfgottwins · 01/07/2021 17:54

Awful and dare I say it downmarket

Time2b33 · 01/07/2021 17:54

How about keeping the same sound but spelling it differently?

Nevaya
Navaya
Navaia

Or similarly

Naya
Naia
Naiya
Nya

??
