Nevaeh as a girl's name.. Yay or nay?

I'm currently expecting a DD and my DP likes the name Nevaeh but I think is sounds really tacky and well...made up.
It's Heaven spelt backwards... I work at a nursery and there are 2 babies with that name!
I prefer traditional solid names with meaning and substance behind them, rather than made up sounding ones.
Imagine the poor kids having to spend their lives repeating and explaining their name, having to spelt it out endlessly when people don't "get" it?

A name can link someone to a certain class but the socio-economic situation they're born into is the major factor. Some people like to think if they mimic the upper-classes those upper-class doors will be opened to them. But that's not how dear old class obsessed UK is designed to function.

I know a really lovely girl with this name and have always thought it's a beautiful sounding name. I had NO IDEA it was Heaven spelt backwards though!!

FineAndDandy101 · 04/07/2021 13:34

@CharlieWorkCharlieSad You pronounce it like Ner Vey Ah

Kanaloa · 04/07/2021 13:35

@GreyhoundG1rl

I am working class. My kids have quite plain/boring type names as that’s what DH and I like. They go to school with plenty of Kaidens and Tylers, and lots of Williams and Henrys. The point I’m trying to make is that the name isn’t going to make a massive difference in how the child is raised/the opportunities that they have. Whether I call my child Nevaeh or Amy, the type of people that will judge the name will probably judge me anyway.

StillCalmX · 04/07/2021 13:39

it's pronounced a bit like Nivea I think.
The sound of it is pretty enough but the fact that it's heaven backwards is what puts me off.

That's why it looks wrong written down because it's a word backwards.

What about Nieves ?

bishbashbosh99 · 04/07/2021 14:03

Wow, not sure how that can be tacky. Proper stuck up people on here sometimes. It sounds pretty and only your opinion matters, not strangers who are pretending to have class on the internet

MaMelon · 04/07/2021 14:05

Snobbery works both ways.

Galvantula · 04/07/2021 23:07

Nope. Nope.

ShitPoetryClub · 05/07/2021 00:49

Why spell it backwards though?
If you like Heaven, just call her Heaven.

DerbyshireMama · 05/07/2021 01:02

I don't get why the Nevaeh mums come out with that "it's heaven backwards" line anyway. It doesn't make her a pissing angel does it?

RickOShay · 05/07/2021 08:18

I think because it sounds pretty backwards. Ne vey ah, is lovely. I think it is nice to call your child a name with positive connotations.
Why not?

MaMelon · 05/07/2021 10:33

It sounds like Nivea.

It doesn't have positive connotations, because it's backwards. In some religions, reading biblical writings backwards is considered sinful 🤷🏻‍♀️ Obviously some people won't care about that but it's still not remotely a "positive" thing to do.

Legna - new trend?? Grin
Skysblue · 05/07/2021 11:30

Let her have a name that’s easy to spell.

RickOShay · 05/07/2021 22:26

But it’s not a biblical writing though,
I’m sure it’s mentioned in the Bible.
But does that make it biblical?

elizabethh87 · 05/07/2021 22:28

Downright awful!

coronafiona · 05/07/2021 22:52

Just go for Niamh? Confused

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 06/07/2021 08:35

@coronafiona

Just go for Niamh? Confused
The only thing Niamh and Nevaeh have in common is that that both start with N
Figgygal · 06/07/2021 08:39

Hopefully your husband has come to his senses op

Seesawmummadaw · 06/07/2021 08:59

I’d pronounce it as neither.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 06/07/2021 09:51

It’s choosing it because it’s heaven backwards then spelling it differently that I don’t quite understand. I mean, it’s terrible either way…

spanielstail · 06/07/2021 21:01

It's very tacky and people with judge. It is a name that stands out as working class like the Hayden's, Jayden's and Gracie-Mae's.

Unfortunately that comes with it a set of behaviour expectations.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 06/07/2021 22:02

I won't lie, came across a nevaeh (pronounced like nivea?) the other day at a play group. The mother certainly lived up to the class stereotype that this name suggests.

Lalliella · 07/07/2021 00:50

Dreadful. Words cannot express how awful this word is, I can’t even bring myself to call it a name. Naff and chavvy.
