I'm currently expecting a DD and my DP likes the name Nevaeh but I think is sounds really tacky and well...made up.
It's Heaven spelt backwards... I work at a nursery and there are 2 babies with that name!
I prefer traditional solid names with meaning and substance behind them, rather than made up sounding ones.
Imagine the poor kids having to spend their lives repeating and explaining their name, having to spelt it out endlessly when people don't "get" it?

Noooo.

DancesWithTortoises · 01/07/2021 14:51

Dreadful.

Becstar90 · 01/07/2021 14:52

I like it, sounds pretty.

Every name is made up 😂😂😂

bowsandbangles · 01/07/2021 14:52

It's pronounced : Nev-vay-a

I suppose all names are 'made up'. Just depends at what point in history. For me it's the fact it's Heaven spelt backwards that makes it tacky. I mean you could theoretically take any word and spell it backwards...Evol, rats, legna! see I've made some up just now!

Comedycook · 01/07/2021 14:53

Ha cross post with @becstar90

If you’re in the UK, OP, names come with social class baggage attached. And sadly, that particular one has a “lower class” tag.
The community dentists at my hospital used to go round local schools to check the kids’ teeth, and they said they could tell from the register which kids would have tooth decay, purely from their Christian names.
By all means use the name if you really like it, but be aware of how it will be perceived.

Ohjustboreoff · 01/07/2021 14:58

Please god No!

Angel2702 · 01/07/2021 14:59

There are very few names that I really really dislike strongly but this is one of them. Very tacky.

bakingdemon · 01/07/2021 15:00

Beyond tacky.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/07/2021 15:00

I think it sounds pretty but I can't get over the heaven spelt backwards so wouldn't use it

TheGenealogist · 01/07/2021 15:01

Not in a MILLION YEARS.

Awful name. Heaven backwards....that'd be hell then?

Just no.

Fistful · 01/07/2021 15:01

@VienneseWhirligig

Is it pronounced Nev-ay-a? I never know how to say it. It's objectively pretty-sounding if it's said that way. But the spelling, and confusion over pronunciation, and the 'Heaven backwards' thing make it seem a bit unusable. Why not just call her Heaven if that's what the meaning is?
Yes it is, but I always find myself mentally quibbling about whether Nevaeh would in fact be pronounced that way, anyway, and thinking 'Just call her Nevaya'. The two girls at DS's old school called this were both referred to as 'Nev', anyway.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/07/2021 15:02

I think being Heaven spelt backwards makes me think of something related to a Satanic Black Mass. (Not that I've been to one!)

ChocOrange1 · 01/07/2021 15:02

Super tacky. I agree with the suggestion of Niamh which is similar, or maybe Maeve or Nancy which sort of have a similar sound/feel.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/07/2021 15:03
Shock It's nothing like Niamh. The sound might be vaguely along similar lines, the name is not. I have a Niamh
emmathedilemma · 01/07/2021 15:05

awful

inmyslippers · 01/07/2021 15:05

I thought it was an Irish name for years 😆 only seeing it slagged off on here did I realise it's heaven backwards. Curious how a name can have substance though ? 😬

Classica · 01/07/2021 15:06

In Scotland the name Senga (Agnes spelt backwards) used to be quite popular and you'll sometimes meet a 60-something woman called this. But it's now seen as being a bit of a joke name. And that's what I think will happen with Nevaeh.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/07/2021 15:07

Unfortunately OP as a fairly recently invented name imo Nevaeh has somewhat downmarket vibes or a bit "tacky" if you prefer to put it that way.

If it's the sound your partner likes then consider the Scandi Linnea instead - "Li -nay -ah" . Or there is also the Greek Vaia, which some people pronounce closer to "Vay -ah". Many people in the UK also pronounce the Greek Maya/Maia as "May- ah" too.

Mamamamasaurus · 01/07/2021 15:08

Fuck, no.

inmyslippers · 01/07/2021 15:08

I love it. However on here If your kids haven't got posh names such as
Otillie. Arabella. Octavia. Juliette or Henrietta its "tacky".

^^ don't forget Margot and Oliver. Basically white middle class names

bananamonkey · 01/07/2021 15:08

Nope,I don’t get the backwards thing as thats not a thing with other names? I thought it was a joke name like Chardonnay but then I heard a Mum call it out in a shop.

dworky · 01/07/2021 15:08

@Comedycook

Sorry I think it's awful...very tacky
Sorry, I think calling using 'tacky' is snobbery.
