Daughters initials will be LMP

So, the name we have fallen in love with for our daughter is Lara and I want to give her my mother's name for her middle name which is Marjorie and her surname begins with P, making her initials LMP.... do you think this will affect her in later life being the abbreviation for 'Last Menstrual Period' - kids can be mean!!

I'd love to hear your thoughts....

I doubt any school dc would make that connection!!

crumble82 · 09/06/2021 11:31

I had to come on here to see what the problem was as had no idea what LMP stood for. I think you’re overthinking it and they’re both lovely names

steelseries · 09/06/2021 11:31

I can't think any children would know that LMP could refer to last menstrual period.

I didn't even know when I clicked on your thread and I've had two children and used to frequent the conception boards.

Palavah · 09/06/2021 11:31

I think that's paranoid. I can't imagine schoolchildren will recognise LMP as an abbreviation.

Cornettoninja · 09/06/2021 11:32

Hand on heart I had no idea what the problem with those initials would be and that’s why I clicked on the thread - to find out!

I vote you’re overthinking it and those initials wouldn’t be a problem, especially as kids (or adults for that matter) very rarely come across first name/middle name/surname initials and that’s an obscure enough abbreviation to not make the connection.

GammyLeg · 09/06/2021 11:32

You’re totally overthinking this.

Soontobe60 · 09/06/2021 11:32

All I thought was they are corresponding letters of the alphabet.

Lucykbw · 09/06/2021 11:34

I meant more like teenage children that younger children.

Thanks for your replies, I'm obviously thinking too much into it, just wouldn't want her to be picked because of my name choice!

Nope.

Nope, I couldn't do that. Because once I'd thought it I'd never forget it.

I doubt kids would notice and by the time she's answering her GP questions about her own LMP she'll be past bullying.

But, I'd know.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/06/2021 11:36

Give her another name to make it 4 initials?

Not Anna, Ingrid, or Ursula, though.

MakkaPakkas · 09/06/2021 11:40

If it was FML or PMS, or even FFS I'd think about it. I think you're safe with LMP though! I didn't know what it stood for and I think it would be even less on the mind of school kids

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 09/06/2021 11:42

I too looked to see what it was.

I think she’ll be fine OP. Really.

sparemonitor · 09/06/2021 11:42

I have a friend with the initials LMP and she is an obstetrician!

KitchenWarrior · 09/06/2021 11:43

I really think this specific abbreviation is only going to be noticed by pregnant ladies during their pregnancy Wink

Reallybadidea · 09/06/2021 11:43

LMP for me stands for lemon meringue pie, which is a rather nice connotation I think Smile I wouldn't worry about last menstrual period, it won't occur to any kids.

MoonCatcher · 09/06/2021 11:43

I had to discount a name for my daughter because it came out as Rip 😔

stuntfarter · 09/06/2021 11:46

I had no idea LMP stood for anything ,
Lara is a truly lovely name

MindyStClaire · 09/06/2021 11:46

I think even most women don't know LMP unless they've been on conception boards.

Any combination of three letters will be an acronym for something, unless it's very obvious or rude I wouldn't let it put me off.

BikeRunSki · 09/06/2021 11:49

I imagine that this is only something that pregnant people and women’s health care professionals might have at the forefront of their minds.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 09/06/2021 11:52

Really?? Who would think that without it being pointed out to them?

I don't think I've ever written my kids initials out, it's hardly an every day sort of issue.

Waaaaaay overthinking.

CoronaBanana · 09/06/2021 11:54

You what?

PegPeople · 09/06/2021 11:55

No one is going to make that connection. You are massively over thinking it. Smile

I had to Google LMP when filling out the form to be referred to a midwife when pregnant because I had absolutely no clue what it stood for. I eventually found a result explaining it but only by adding pregnancy to the end of the search. Grin

HUCKMUCK · 09/06/2021 11:57

Even if they know what LMP means in terms of periods, I'm not sure how many kids know each others full intials? I'm pretty sure my DS 16 doesn't know many of his friends middle names.

MrsMiddleMother · 09/06/2021 11:57

You are massively over thinking. Only pregnant women or women ttc even know what LMP stands for tbh so school kids definitely won't be a problem

Lucykbw · 09/06/2021 11:58

Thanks everyone, definitely feel better now, you are all so right that you would only know that if you had come across it.

I think it's because I know what it means I can't get it out of my head 🙈
