Honor Gianna 'Gigi'

She would predominantly be known as Gigi. Will I cause her problems by calling her by her middle name? I don't want Gigi on it's own as it doesn't seem like a proper name and Honor looks and sounds better with her sibling who is Hugo. Am I going to cause her a lifetime of confusion? Other possible name is India.

I think Honor is lovely but I don't think it flows brilliantly with Gigi

What about Honor Georgina?

Selkie1961 · 16/05/2021 16:18

Honor Gigi also sounds a bit like 'on a geegee'

jclm · 16/05/2021 16:18

Gigi is lovely, as is Gianna. I think Gigi goes really well with Hugo. Why not just have Gigi as a first name? She can change it to Gianna when older.

hoomans · 16/05/2021 16:19

Gianna will be pronounced gi-arna.

eugh, Gee ahhhhna, that sounds awful. It's Italian, so why would anybody give it a south of England accent.

CheshireCats · 16/05/2021 16:24

Just Gianna know as Gigi. Why give her a first name you are never going to use? She will have to explain to people for the rest of her life.

Marcipex · 16/05/2021 16:25

Honor and Gianna are nice but Gigi is awful.

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/05/2021 16:27

Honor Gianna, but know as Gigi? Confused. What's the point??

Stevearnottsbeard · 16/05/2021 16:29

Honor and Hugo are a bit too matchy for my taste

MrsBertBibby · 16/05/2021 16:35

Honor is great. Gianna is a bit pretentious.

Gigi in my class at school was generally called Ig. Or Igig.

Pinkblueberry · 16/05/2021 16:35

Just call her Gigi if that’s what everyone will call her anyway. It’s a nice name. Honor is nice too but if no one ever uses it and she barely hears it what’s the point? I personally find planning for nicknames odd.

BeamerTown · 16/05/2021 16:51

My Christian name begins with one letter but the nickname I’ve had since being a baby (think Charlotte and nickname Lotte) has created a lifetime of admin issues for me – everyone writes me checks for L.surname, employers write contracts as Lotte which doesn’t match up with HMRC - if she’s having a nickname, please make the letters be the same!

What does it matter how Honor looks if she is going to be predominantly known as Gigi?
Iloveyou3x · 16/05/2021 16:53

I think Hugo and Gianna go together fine. I’d pronounce it Gee-Anna if I was you, but your choice!

DancesWithDaffodils · 16/05/2021 17:00

While its not the end of the world, being known as your middle name isn't brill.
I spent the whole of my registering and administering of covid jab being called "Dances", while I'm always called "With" by everyone. I just dont associate with it. Especially when everyone mangles my surname too.
If you are going to call her Gigi on a day to day basis, use that, or a full name that gets shortened to Gigi.
Dont call her Honor and then use Gigi.

Floralnomad · 16/05/2021 17:03

Why does the name have to flow with the sibling name , people are individuals . Gianna is fine and much nicer than Gigi or Honor .

daisypond · 16/05/2021 17:10

@hoomans

Gianna will be pronounced gi-arna.
That isn’t how it’s pronounced, though. If you want Gigi and don’t want Honor, call her something else that you can get Gigi from.
olderthanyouthink · 16/05/2021 17:15

How are you supposed to say Gianna?

I wouldn't purposefully add the confusion of it being able to find Gigi on the list of names because that's not her actual first name

Selkie1961 · 16/05/2021 17:16

Gee-Anna

Short a

daisypond · 16/05/2021 17:17

It really only has two syllables- something like Jahn-a/ Janna.

amallierory · 16/05/2021 17:20

Gianna pronounced "gi-arrrna" doesn't make sense. It should be spelled Giana if you want it pronounced like that - but that doesn't look right. Aren't there any other names you like that can be shortened to Gigi? What about Georgie or Georgina?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/05/2021 17:21

I love Honor, so I think it’s a shame if you don’t call her that as her name.

Fernie6491 · 16/05/2021 17:24

Sorry but 'On a geegee' sounds really ridiculous - it's a bit like 'Orson Cart" Grin

KirstenBlest · 16/05/2021 17:25

Gianna is pronounce JiANNa

Gigi is pronounced Zheezhee. It would be better as short for Gisele (french pronunciation - Zhis-ELL but she will get called Jizzelle)

Known as middle name is a PITA,

Honor sounds like On a
Gigi will be gee gee.

Bobbybobbins · 16/05/2021 17:31

If you want Gigi as a nickname, I would go with a first name that will work for that eg Gianna, Georgina, Georgiana, Gabriella, Georgia, Gloria, Genevieve
