Help a sister out! Could you give me feedback or reorder in order of preference. What do you think of the names, do you know any LGs with these names, are they popular, are there any strange associations I should know about etc etc. Basically I'd just be interested to get a mix of feedback and opinions.

Thank you.

Rosalind - lovely. Screams middle class.
Lucy - sweet but twee and Lucie even more twee.
Eleanor - graceful but a bit stuffy. Can't stand American pronunciation.
Sylvia - utterly beautiful but brings to mind the god awful murder of Sylvia Likens.

alexdgr8 · 07/05/2021 19:50

i like Lucy, rather than Lucie which looks pretentious,
Eleanor is elegant.
Sylvia is ok.
sorry don't like Rosalind, as i have known several who are manipulative.

MangosteenSoda · 07/05/2021 19:56

Rosalind!

Eleanor
Lucy (only go ‘ie’ if French)
Sylvia

cbatoabc · 08/05/2021 13:21

Rosalind then Sylvia.

Lucie and Eleanor are both nice but a little on trend and overdone.

MondeoFan · 08/05/2021 13:23

Lucille - Lucy
Sylvia
Rosalind - Rosie
Eleanor - Ella rather than Ellie as Ellie v common

Pemba · 08/05/2021 15:58

Nell is the traditional diminutive of Eleanor. Nice, and more unusual than the now ubiquitous Ellie.

Onlinedilema · 08/05/2021 19:11

I love Sylvia and Eleanor.

Lucielu30 · 08/08/2021 20:47

Had to reply to this as Rosalind is my daughters name (we call her rosie) Lucie is my middle name, Sylvia is my grandmas name and Eleanor is the name I love for a future girl. Goes without saying I love love all these names!

ChavDiningHalls · 08/08/2021 20:49

Oh goodness, all good names. I'd spell Lucy the way I have just written it, though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/08/2021 20:51

Rosalind
Eleanor
Lucy
Sylvia (prefer Sylvie)

I love Sylvia. I know two, aged 2 and in her 70s, so it feels like a timeless name. Lovely nature connection and link to Sylvia Pankhurst.

Really like Lucy - reminds me of Narnia, but I couldn't spell it Lucie.

Eleanor is lovely, but will probably be shortened and there are loads of Ellies and Ellas around.

Rosalind - it's ok. Dislike Roz as nn. Much prefer Rosa or Rosalie.

PearlFriday · 08/08/2021 21:57

Sylvie I like but hate Sylvia
Eleanor - best on this list
Rosalind - long. Will end up "Roz"
Lucie, ok prefer spelling Lucy

MerylSqueak · 08/08/2021 22:01

If DS had been a girl, he would have been called Sylvia.

I also like Rosalind but she will get Ros. Do you mind that?

ChewChewPanda · 08/08/2021 22:03

Lucy (spelled this way) is lovely - classic, elegant and I love the “light” connection

Sylvia is an old lady name for me though posters referencing strong Sylvias make me think I should try harder to like it.

Eleanor is nice though she may end up as one of (many) Ellies so I wouldn’t choose that either.

Rosalind is absolutely beautiful and a contender for my girls list though I’d want to use the full name or Rosa / Rosie (not Roz or Linda) so am pondering that a little more.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/08/2021 23:29

I hate the sound and look of Sylvia.
It makes me think of Saliva. However I’ve only known 2 and both were lovely.

I’m beginning to see the appeal of Eleanor now. I think I like it more because I’ve been watching The haunting of Hill House and one of the characters is named Eleanor.

I adore Lucie. You cAnt go wrong at all with it.It’s sweet and adorable for a little girl.
Cool for a teenager. Powerful sophisticated yet friendly and fun loving for an adult.

I’ve got nothing positive to say about Rosalind sorry. Very harsh and unfriendly

Bumblecattabbybee · 09/08/2021 05:49

Sylvia is my number one! So beautiful!
Lucie number two. Very pretty.
Eleanor number three. I love nn Nell.
I don't like Rosalind. I feel like she'd end up being called Roz all the time. Rosa is beautiful though!

Torvean · 09/08/2021 06:22

I'd change Sylvia to Sylvie
Rosalind to Rose/Rosa.
Lucy

Not a fan of Eleanor sorry. Eilidh is fab though and not used very often.

ILoveShula · 09/08/2021 08:45

Rosalind - classic
Lucy (not Lucie) - popular but classic
Eleanor - too many Ellies and Ellas
Sylvia, - dislike

I'd probaby go for Lucy Rosalind

35andThriving · 09/08/2021 18:45

There all nice. I am really surprised at how far Rosalind is down the name charts to be honest. Rosalind would be my choice but they are all lovely.

Babydust13 · 10/08/2021 12:35

@Orangebug

In order: Sylvia - I like this Lucie - I would spell it Lucy Rosalind - nice, nickname Rosie Eleanor - not keen, and Ellie / Ella nicknames are v popular around here
I agree with this
ArriettyTheBorrower · 10/08/2021 13:50

Eleanor or Rosalind. Lucy is cute but very popular. Sylvia is grannyish.

35andThriving · 10/08/2021 13:55
  • They're all nice.
Viviennemary · 10/08/2021 13:55

I like all of them which is a z miracle considering some of the names on here. In order

Sylvia
Rosalind
Eleanor
Lucie but prefer Lucy.

Lucielu30 · 08/04/2023 20:30

This is crazy.
My daughters name is Rosalind (Rosie)
My middle name is Lucie
My grannies name is Sylvia
And if we have second girl her name will be Eleanor
