My absolute favourite name for a girl is Story. Absolutely love, love, love it. I just know I could never use it in the first name spot for obvious reasons. I was just wondering if anyone else has a favourite name they’ll never use?

I would never have used them but have an extreme soft spot for Temperance and Sojourner.

Also like astronomy inspired names like Vega, Cassiopeia, Andromeda

Welsh girls names have some lovely meanings that you could never get away with in English - Enfys (Rainbow), Eira (Snow) and Eirawen (Snow-white), Eirlys (Snowdrop), Heulwen (Sunshine), Deryn (Bird) and of course Seren (Star)

Quite a few but all girls - I guess they are fairly whimsical

Story
Fable
Posy
Ever
Sailor
Bay
Tigerlily

GingerPCatt · 27/04/2021 20:22

For girls - Ariadne, Xiola, Zenobia For boys- Callan, Ponder Blue

Tatum1234 · 27/04/2021 20:23

I know a Storie.

Orphlids · 27/04/2021 20:27

I have an Isolde, which, given people’s reactions when they hear it, is apparently considered by many to be bizarre. I also love Lennox for a girl, and Loveday.I saw a road named Etheldore, which I thought would be a lovely name for a woman. For a boy, I love Rollo, Uther and Loxley.

Orphlids · 27/04/2021 20:28

Oh, and Fable for a boy or girl is just lovely, I think.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 27/04/2021 20:31

@toastofthetown omg! Pepper is the name we are thinking of going with for our baby girl due in a few weeks!! My husband is obsessed with it I've taken some convincing! But I think I love it now x

AnxiousAnnie86 · 27/04/2021 20:33

@unruly336 also I love story!!! I've never heard that before, but such a beautiful name x

TheOpportuneMoment · 27/04/2021 20:33

I've always wanted Elvis for a boy. I would never use it for obvious reasons, but surely a time will come when the next generation wouldn't immediately think of Elvis Presley?!?

midsomermurderess · 27/04/2021 20:44

Hepzibah. Not bizarre, but not quotidian.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 27/04/2021 20:47

Blessing 😇

Pedalpushers · 27/04/2021 20:53

For a girl either Blue or Lenore (stupid fabric softener)
For a boy, Rocky or Fox.

jupeBex · 27/04/2021 21:05

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 27/04/2021 21:12

Amarachi (not Nigerian)

Same, I love how nature based a lot of Welsh names are. Tesni means 'the warmth from the sun'.

Mine are Esyllt, Eseld and Iseult.

Esyllt is Welsh for Iseult and doesn't work in English to due the aspirated L (the letter Ll).

Eseld is Cornish for Iseult. I am not remotely Cornish, alas.

There is no way on earth DH would agree to Iseult.

A relative of mine has recently had a baby Elvis. A name to live up to!
TRC11 · 27/04/2021 21:41

I really, really wanted to name my daughter Dagmar.

ClashCityRocker · 27/04/2021 21:49

Had a conversation with an expecting friend recently, and we both agreed Jezebel is a really pretty but unusable name for a girl (or for a boy, for that matter!)

Hoowhoowho · 27/04/2021 21:53

My three have ‘out there’ names, one mentioned on this thread but I would have loved a Boudicca, Rhythm, Rejoice, Job or Cassiopeia

PeterPomegranate · 27/04/2021 21:56

I always loved Mab for a girl. Couldn’t use it though!

PeterPomegranate · 27/04/2021 21:57

“ Tesni means 'the warmth from the sun'.”

Oh that’s beautiful!

Spied · 27/04/2021 22:05

Lolita and Perdita

@CaffiSaliMali

Trystan (spelled intentionally wrong)

Trystan isn't wrong - Tristan is an anglicised spelling of the Welsh/Brythonic name Trystan.

I’m glad to hear that then!

I thought I’d “made it up” when I was about 15 lol. I thought having Tryst in it (as in a lovers tryst) made it more romantic than conventional Tristan Blush.

Trystan can go on “The List” then Grin.

GreenClock · 27/04/2021 22:05

I reallylike Maxine and Kirsty. Very dated though.

VenusClapTrap · 27/04/2021 22:17

Anemone. I posted it on here for opinions when I was pregnant years ago, and got my arse handed to me. Unpronounceable and sounds like ‘Any money’ according to MN. I still love it. Grin

I also love Narcissa, but you just couldn’t, could you?
