Thoughts on the girls name Thomasin?

It's a classic Aramaic name, but hasn't been used regularly since the the early 1800's. There were both positive and negative reactions on another thread where it was mentioned in passing, so thought it deserved it's own to determine where everybody stands on it.

I like it.

TatianaBis · 13/04/2021 14:21

Like very much. After Thomasin Yeobright. Like Thomasina too. I know one.

percheron67 · 13/04/2021 14:22

Beautiful name. Classic.

WonkyCactus · 13/04/2021 14:23

It's awful.

Violetlavenders · 13/04/2021 14:24

Classic and beautiful.

A refreshing change from all the cutesy Evie, Ellie type names.

TatianaBis · 13/04/2021 14:24

Yeah so much better than Evie Ella, Lily Isla

Lockdownbear · 13/04/2021 14:25

Thomasina would be a more likely female version of Thomas, but it could end up getting shortened to Ina.

joystir59 · 13/04/2021 14:25

Like it a lot. Refreshing, classic and strong.

Ritascornershop · 13/04/2021 14:28

I like it, but prefer Thomasina.

stormelf · 13/04/2021 14:30

I actually prefer it to Tomasina, which seems a bit frilly for me but I don't really like long names

waltzingparrot · 13/04/2021 14:31

I've always loved it. Also came across Thomasin Yeobright from Thomas Hardy novel.

Love Thomasina too - NN Tamsin

Anon778833 · 13/04/2021 14:32

I think it’s awful, sorry.

Kanaloa · 13/04/2021 14:35

Not keen. It’s a bit clunky sounding to me. I like Josephine though, which is similar.

GroggyLegs · 13/04/2021 14:40

Thomasina is cool.
Thomasin is also interesting but sounds more masculine to me.

QueryA · 13/04/2021 14:40

I've not heard it before, but I'm not keen, not sure why. Think it may looks a bit surname like, like Thomason.

I like Tamsin though!

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/04/2021 14:41

Thomasina would be a lot better, although I don't like it either.

Sall23 · 13/04/2021 16:00

Not keen. I know one, she changed her name to Tamsin.

Seriouslymole · 13/04/2021 16:01

It reminds me too much of Alicina which I think is the sheep in Katy Morag.

It's not awful though.

Palavah · 13/04/2021 16:04

Like it. Prefer it to Thomasina.

contrary13 · 13/04/2021 16:06

I like it, despite its clunkiness. However, I know a Tamasin - which is a variant of this name, I believe, and which does sound more feminine.

queenoffarts22 · 13/04/2021 16:07

It just reminds me of that film The Witch where her dad (Chris finch from the office) keeps saying 'TOMASIN is thy a witch?' In a strong northern accent. If you haven't seen the film you'll have no idea what I'm rabitting on about.

Nice name though Smile

RuthW · 13/04/2021 16:08

Awful. Needs an A on the end but then not much better.

emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 16:09

Awful

elp30 · 13/04/2021 16:15

My Mexican paternal grandmother was called, Tomasina but we called her Tomasita.

I love both names ❤️

elp30 · 13/04/2021 16:17

Sorry, forgot to say, Tomasin is a great name too!
