Claudia vs Audrey? Aurelia vs Aurora?

Hi mumsnetters,
We’re expecting twins in the early summer and are torn between Claudia and Audrey for one of them (we don’t want to use both because the ‘aude’ sound makes them a little too similar for twins for us) and Aurelia and Aurora for the other. (Aurelia being pronounced Ah-ray-lee-ah).

Which do you prefer?

I far prefer Claudia to Audrey and I prefer Aurelia to Aurora. But I wonder if Claudia and Aurelia sound too similar. Personally though, I wouldn't go for twins with matching first initials. They will have to share enough in life without that; I'd give then that distinction.

PattyPan · 09/04/2021 19:34

I pronounce all four of those names with the same ‘or’ sound in my accent so I think they are all a bit similar. Definitely if you were using Aurora/Aurelia then Audrey would be way too similar.

EileenGC · 09/04/2021 19:51

I prefer Claudia and Aurora.

daisyjgrey · 09/04/2021 20:05

Audrey and Aurora (I have an Aurora, so I'm biased).

Cinderellashoes · 09/04/2021 20:07

Claudia and Aurora
Audrey reminds me of Audrey roberts, sorry!! I like Aurelia but I think lots of people will mispronounce it.

Onesnowynight · 09/04/2021 20:12

Claudia and Aurora are best. Please not Audrey!!

TenThousandSpoons · 09/04/2021 20:15

Claudia and Aurelia although I think Aurelia will get pronounced with the same “au” as Claudia. They’re all very matchy.

ivfbeenbusy · 09/04/2021 20:16

Honestly the Aurora and Aurelia ones are too.....much. And the fact you had to tell people how you would pronounce Aurelia is a big no no .....which by the way is not how most people would pronounce it (Or-ray-Lee-ah)

I like Claudia.....

(I have new born twins by the way and my advice would be to keep it simple,
Not too cutesy or matchy matchy!)

MintLampShade · 09/04/2021 20:24

I LOVE Claudia! My other choice would be Aurora.

pilates · 09/04/2021 20:26

Definitely Claudia, Audrey is dull
Unsure about the other two names, they don’t flow nicely

Lostmyself86 · 09/04/2021 21:15

Audrey and Aurora

KirstenBlest · 09/04/2021 21:18

To many 'au's.

None of the names are particularly nice. Claudine is nicer than Claudia. i don't like Audrey, Aurelia or Aurora.

MadeOfStarStuff · 09/04/2021 21:19

Claudia and Aurora

Wallabyone · 09/04/2021 21:22

I don't think you can have Audrey with either of the other too as they are all very similar sounds.
Claudia is nice, but bear in mind that there are two ways of pronouncing it and it gets annoying to correct people all the time.

Normandy144 · 09/04/2021 21:23

I have a Claudia and it's such a great name, so definitely gets my thumbs up. I think the best match is Aurora although I don't like it very much. My other favourites were Gabriella, Lydia, Avery and Valentina just in case you want other options.

DancesWithDaffodils · 09/04/2021 21:30

Please give the twins different initials.
Claudia and Audrey are my favourite. Aurelia will not generally get pronounced the way you want. So I guess Claudia and Aurora.
But, I think you can only use one of those names. Too much "au" going on. So pick your favourite of the names, keep some for middle names if not already sorted, and keep looking.

pigglepot · 09/04/2021 21:43

Is this the same set of twins who used to be Audrey and Quinn?

HastingsIsSuckingDiesel · 09/04/2021 21:50

Too many 'or' sounds to use more than 1 of them.

I'd pick Claudia and something else that doesn't sound too similar.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 09/04/2021 21:57

Claudia and Aurora for me

SkankingMopoke · 09/04/2021 22:07

I agree with the PP on giving names with different initials. I'm not hugely keen on Claudia, but would keep that one as the only name not beginning with A.
How about Aurelie rather than Aurelia, to avoid a matchy-matchy ending with -ia?

I would also pronounce the start of all of the Au- names with an 'or' sound too BTW...

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/04/2021 22:12

While I like all your choices (we must have similar taste!) Claudia is my absolute favourite, followed by Aurelia. Both have an elegant, strong, international vibe and work well together imo.

Audrey is retro cool but a slightly different style to the others to me. While Aurora is an Ancient Roman Goddess, it has been a bit Disneyfied and is also quite popular now.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/04/2021 22:14

Or If you don't want two names with an "aw" sound, Claudia and Antonia or Claudia and Julia work very well together imo.

Flymetothestars · 09/04/2021 22:40

I really love Audrey

Lostinthewilderness · 09/04/2021 22:45

Claudia & Aurelia (but I would pronounce it Or-ay-lee-ah)

diddlediddle · 09/04/2021 23:27

Claudia is lovely, as is Audrey. The other two are a bit nothingy to me, too trendy, and they all sound far too samey with Claudia or Audrey.

In fact Claudia and Audrey sound the best together and the least similar to my ear. Maybe because Audrey has a different ending. They are both classic classy names.

Aurelia will be pronounced Or-Ray-Lee-Ah which is different to how you want it, so I wouldn't choose that or you and your child will be constantly annoyed.
