Claudia vs Audrey? Aurelia vs Aurora?

Hi mumsnetters,
We’re expecting twins in the early summer and are torn between Claudia and Audrey for one of them (we don’t want to use both because the ‘aude’ sound makes them a little too similar for twins for us) and Aurelia and Aurora for the other. (Aurelia being pronounced Ah-ray-lee-ah).

Which do you prefer?

They all use the same "or" sound in my accent.🤷

GojiberryStar · 10/04/2021 23:01

Not Aurora.

Aurelia I love

Claudia is good.

Pass on Audrey.

SneezyGonzalez · 10/04/2021 23:13

I quite like Audrey and Aurelia although not 100% sold on Audrey. Love love love Aurelia because I once knew a wonderful one with a beautiful heart. For the opposite reason, hate Aurora. Claudia is also nice but not sure it goes with Aurelia. How about another name completely beginning with A....Aphra and Aurelia maybe?

mammmamia · 10/04/2021 23:27

Please go for Quinn as per your other thread!

RedGoldAndGreene · 10/04/2021 23:30

C-lord-ee-ah or Cloud-ee-ah?

Too many "or" sounds I think but I'd pick Claudia and Aurelia

Edenember · 10/04/2021 23:41

Claudia and Aurora. I’d definitely go different initials (as a fellow twin mum), people are going to treat them as a set their whole life so anything you can do from the off to help them with distinct identities is good.

Enidblyton1 · 10/04/2021 23:53

I love Claudia and Aurelia, but they are a bit of a mouthful together. You will be saying these names a lot together so that’s something to think about. Honestly, I’d pick one of your ‘au’ sounding names and then chose a completely different sounding names for the other twin.

TatianaBis · 11/04/2021 06:15

I think Claudia and Aurelia are easy to say.

zigaziga · 11/04/2021 07:16

Aurelia over Aurora a million times.

I don’t really get why Aurora is so popular - it’s a Disney princess name and unbelievable frilly. I can’t imagine a very serious partner at a law firm called Aurora.

Aurelia is lovely.

JemimaJoy · 11/04/2021 08:53

NOT Aurelia and Aurora, especially together, or with Audrey. Way too sickly sweet and difficult to say!

Audrey and Claudia arw fabulous and strong and classy.

Aurora and Aurelia suddenly very faddy. They're the type of names that are only beautiful when rare and seem a bit naff when common.

JemimaJoy · 11/04/2021 08:59

I pronounce Aurelia 'Or-eh-lee-uh'.

All have the same 'or' sound in my accent too, like a PP ssaid. 'Cl-or-dia', 'Or-or-uh', 'Or-dree', 'Or-eh-lee-uh'

I agree with this. The repetitive 'au' sound is too much in the pairing.

Personally, I'm not fond of Aurora, but the rest are fine.

WildCherryBlossom · 11/04/2021 10:09

How about Claudia and Aurelie (pronounced ORR-e-lee). They both have the au sound but don't both end in ia)

I know a beautiful French girl called Aurelie.

borntobequiet · 11/04/2021 10:13

Audrey is a completely different style, as mentioned above.

Edenember · 11/04/2021 10:16

Aurelie looks and sounds beautiful until you realise it’s Orally.

Cowbells · 11/04/2021 10:16

Claudia and Aurora. But they are too similar. Imagine calling one of them downstairs for years on end. They'll just hear the 'aw' vowel sound and both respond. It gets tiring having to repeat yourself day in day out. (DH and DS1 have similar names.) I'd go for completely different sounds.

Violetlavenders · 11/04/2021 17:20

The meaning of Claudia would put me off. In Latin claudus = disabled.

TatianaBis · 11/04/2021 17:22

And yet Claudius was a great emperor.

ChillySunnyChilly · 11/04/2021 17:34

For me he redeemed the name.
Now Caligula on the other hand..

adrianmolesmole · 11/04/2021 18:11

Audrey and Aurelia, hough they're a bit similar. Claudia is too ugly a name imo and Aurora too 'Disney'.

How about Amelie and Audrey? Bit similar too, but both really pretty names!

Violetlavenders · 11/04/2021 18:11

And yet Claudius was a great emperor.

Yes, ironic that! Smile
