Claudia vs Audrey? Aurelia vs Aurora?

Hi mumsnetters,
We’re expecting twins in the early summer and are torn between Claudia and Audrey for one of them (we don’t want to use both because the ‘aude’ sound makes them a little too similar for twins for us) and Aurelia and Aurora for the other. (Aurelia being pronounced Ah-ray-lee-ah).

Which do you prefer?

Audrey is a fabulous name but not with Aurora and I'd want to give twins different initial letters so wouldn't pair it with Aurelia either. The Aurelias I know both pronounce their names with an 'uh' sound at the start, not as you've said you would want it pronounced. If you go for Claudia, I think the -ia ending of Aurelia and the -ra of Aurora will result in a tongue-twister pair. Choosing two names with different sounds and identities seems important when naming twins.

I think Audrey works well with Elspeth, Kate, Ruth, Rachel, Hannah, Matilda, Harriet and Jane.

Only like Claudia , Audrey at a push , the ones beginning with Au are just too much .

lottiegarbanzo · 10/04/2021 00:36

Audrey and Zora.

You can't have Claude 'n Aude, or Aud and Aur (Ord and Or). They're too similar.

MrsPsmalls · 10/04/2021 00:53

Claudia alone from that set.

MrsPsmalls · 10/04/2021 00:55

How about Ophelia or Cassandra or Louisa for twin no 2

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 10/04/2021 00:58

I love the name Aurelia. I have a friend Claudia pronounced Cloud-ia - she is Italian. I think they go well together.

Doona · 10/04/2021 01:04

Claudia and Audrey

DalPalak · 10/04/2021 01:09

I like Claudia and Audrey too. Both are beautiful, sophisticated names -- they bring to mind Claudia Cardinale and Audrey Hepburn.

Aurelia and Aurora are nice, but Audrey is better. I would avoid two "Au-" names.

Thedogscollar · 10/04/2021 01:10

I only like Claudia. Aurora done to death and too Disney princess.
Aurelia just too much.
Neither go with Claudia.

Cindie943811A · 10/04/2021 01:37

I prefer Claudia and Aurora goes best with it.

Whatdoyouthink86 · 10/04/2021 06:09

Aurora sounds terrible with Claudia I'm afraid! Tongue twister. Plus is so much less sophisticated than Claudia, I'd feel sorry for the second twin.

Audrey and Aurelia both ok with Claudia although may get prononciation problems with Aurelia.

What about Claudia and Autumn? Or Claudia and Athena?

Silverfly · 10/04/2021 06:16

I really don't like "Audrey and Aurora" or "Audrey and Aurelia" - just too similar IMO. So definitely Claudia for one.

I slightly prefer Aurelia to Aurora. I would pronounce it with 'or' not 'ah' though.

SaturdayRocks · 10/04/2021 06:30

Claudia and Aurelian hands down for me.

Can you explain the thinking behind pronouncing ‘Au’ as ‘Ah’?

babynamelover · 10/04/2021 06:30

Claudia & Aurelia 😊

SaturdayRocks · 10/04/2021 06:30

Aurelia

Justa47 · 10/04/2021 06:39

@Atlas2006

Audrey

Quinn! You were set on it and is a family name, it’s popular in the US and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at a ‘Quinn’, neither would most people I know. Mumsnet can be an echo chamber for name preference, have you asked around in real life or anywhere else on the internet?

JackieWeaverFever · 10/04/2021 06:40

Stick with Quinn!!!
It's such a nice name

I hadn't rtft but glad I am not the only one.

I hate that the MN massive made you doubt yourself

SaturdayRocks · 10/04/2021 06:52

Oh gosh, are you the Quinn poster? Just stick with Quinn!

GreenWasabi · 10/04/2021 07:04

Claudia and Aurelia - hands down, beautiful names

GreenWasabi · 10/04/2021 07:05

Also as Pp said
Claudia and Ophelia

Albacross · 10/04/2021 07:09

Claudia and Quinn sound great together, different initials, not too samey. Why did you go off Quinn?

Threelittlebirds1 · 10/04/2021 07:49

Claudia is best from the list. I am not keen on any of the others but I would pick Audrey if I had to choose. I think Audrey and Claudia are fine together but I absolutely would not pair any of the others together, especially for twins.
Such a shame you've dropped Quinn - it's such a lovely name! By far my favourite and I can imagine having short names are much easier for twins!

Bimblybomeyelash · 10/04/2021 08:01

Saying any combination of those names sounds like you are taking with your mouth full.

I don’t like Aurora or Aureilia at all.

What about Claudia and:
Alba
Amelie
Camille
