Adorable for a baby, less so for a teenager/adult. Would be a great nickname though?

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/04/2021 00:48

Why would it be a great nickname? It's ridiculous!

MoFoFlo · 05/04/2021 00:49

Pippin sounds like a dog's name. Nickname at best.

I went to school with a boy named Pepin. He did get teased a bit about it, but was generally a pretty cool and charismatic guy so carried it off pretty well. It's Germanic in origin and means "awe inspiring".

AnotherSunrise · 05/04/2021 00:50

Dog's name!

ShontayYouStay · 05/04/2021 00:51

My first budgie was called Pippen

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2021 00:53

I know someone who had a dog called Pippin, its predecessor was Muffin ... twee dog names.

GreenWheat · 05/04/2021 00:58

Unless you are planning on moving house to inhabit the pages of an Enid Blyton book, I really wouldn't.

giggly · 05/04/2021 01:10

Dogs name, seriously you’d want your adult son to be called Pippin?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 05/04/2021 01:14

LifesNotEnidBlyton

Gazelda

^Auntie Mabel and Pippin. Loved that so much.
Sorry OP, anyone over the age of 40 will think of a dog.^

40? My sister loved that show it was on when we were kids and she's 22! It ran until the late 90s.

Please don't OP!

Then they showed repeats in the early/mid 2000s. My 16 year old adored Pippin.

Deadringer · 05/04/2021 01:14

Awful

SophieGiroux · 05/04/2021 01:26

Come Outside was still on CBeebies in 2010 although very dated, I loved it! How they made soap, toothpaste, Hunter wellies, etc. The crisps episode was banned though and only available on YouTube (wouldn't want to encourage unhealthy eating! Hmm)
Anyway give slightly off topic but Pippin as a name for anyone other than a pet - no.

occa · 05/04/2021 01:27

Dog or apple, sure.

Actual human, God no.

This is your pregnancy hormones talking. Do not listen to them.

cerealgamechanger · 05/04/2021 01:36

Definitely Pippin the Dog and Auntie Mabel for me.

cerealgamechanger · 05/04/2021 01:38

(I'm currently watching the episodes on YouTube with my toddler).

MangosteenSoda · 05/04/2021 01:42

I’m usually of the ‘if you like it, use it’ camp, but this is a hard no from me.

Definitely go down the nickname route.

CakesOfVersailles · 05/04/2021 06:32

It's short for Peregrine which is a stonkingly posh name.

Otherwise could be short for Philip (Philip -> Pip -> Pippin).

I quite like it as a nickname, especially for a small boy. But I would never, never use it on the birth certificate.

AbsolutelyPansy · 05/04/2021 06:34

no
just for a cute animal imo

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 05/04/2021 06:48

Nope, Pippin is a dog name

LordOfTheOnionRings · 05/04/2021 06:56

Anyone who helped Frodo get The Ring to Mordor deserves respect so I'm all for it.

drpet49 · 05/04/2021 06:58

Awful just awful.

MsTSwift · 05/04/2021 06:59

Great for a pet. Are you mid pregnancy? I came up with some corkers. Dd1 was going to be called Lorelai at one point our surname has 2 syllables beginning with L. She is 15 now with a normal name and 🙄🙄 at the very idea!

chocolateorangeinhaler · 05/04/2021 07:11

There was a tv series in the uk in the 80s that had a dog in it called pippin.

Awful name to saddle a human with.

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 07:18

No sorry

lunar1 · 05/04/2021 07:30

Don't do that to a child! If you like it that much for a boy then your DH can change his name to Pippin.

ADragonCalledKeith · 05/04/2021 07:41

I have a friend of a friend, 43ish yo guy called Pip.
I assumed it was a nickname when I met him and his parents were LOTR fans, but nope!
I really like it and it suits him too.
