Hobbit, dog or cat fine. Human being, no.

HerMammy · 04/04/2021 23:42

Remember Pippin has to grow up and go to school and work, cute on a baby doesn’t always work as a grown up.
Poor lad.

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 23:43

@WallaceinAnderland

I know a 6 year old girl called Pippin!
Poor thing.
oldestmumaintheworld · 04/04/2021 23:45

Coxes Orange! Please don't burden your child with this name. I know parents want a name they love for their child but this has to be done thoughtfully. This is the first opportunity you and your partner have to show your child your love for them by not giving them a silly, or unique name which will leave them open to ridicule or bullying.

choosername1234 · 04/04/2021 23:45

It's a variety of apple
Also the name of a narrowboat kept locally to me

Icequeen01 · 04/04/2021 23:45

Oh God, can you imagine a 16 year old called Pippin or even a grown man!

RhubarbFairy · 04/04/2021 23:46

@HarkAVagrant

Even the hobbit had it as a nickname. Wasn’t he Peregrine really?
Yep
Whycantibetangy · 04/04/2021 23:48

We have a hamster called Pippin

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 04/04/2021 23:51

@Gazelda

Auntie Mabel and Pippin. Loved that so much. Sorry OP, anyone over the age of 40 will think of a dog.
40? My sister loved that show it was on when we were kids and she's 22! It ran until the late 90s.

Please don't OP!

caringcarer · 04/04/2021 23:51

I believe it is a variety of apple. Not keen on it for a human name tbh. I think other kids will make fun of it.

Elouera · 04/04/2021 23:55

If I saw a CV from a 20, 30, 40, 50yr old man named Pippin, I'd think- Poor thing- why hasn't he changed that by deed poll by now!!! Or, he is using a nickname for this role and clearly isn't serious about getting the job.

As a nickname if you must, but please give the poor child a real name and a chance in life without being the butt of jokes!

nocoolnamesleft · 04/04/2021 23:57

I believe Pippin's proper name was Peregrin. Which isn't any better.

FizzyTarte · 05/04/2021 00:00

My dog is called pippin. Also I don’t think I could take a man seriously with such a name. Cute baby- maybe, grown man, no chance.

Summerdayshaze · 05/04/2021 00:04

Dear God.

Lalliella · 05/04/2021 00:06

Nooooooo!

SionnachRua · 05/04/2021 00:06

Lovely for a pony or a hobbit. Don't burden a human with it.

7catsandcounting · 05/04/2021 00:08

Well... I was going to tell you to go for it.

Bunnyfuller · 05/04/2021 00:11

Middle name Sméagol, presumably?

MrsFin · 05/04/2021 00:15

If you live in Swindon you'll know all about Pippin donuts.

Runkle · 05/04/2021 00:22

Cute dog

Blondiney · 05/04/2021 00:26

It’s a bit too twee even for a dog.

Topseyt · 05/04/2021 00:29

Sorry OP, no!

I'm another who would either think of a hobbit or of Auntie Mabel and Pippin (dog).

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2021 00:41

My first thoughts are these, but definitely not a person's name!
Pip's nice though for Phillip/Phillippa

Pippin?
Pippin?
OysterMonkey · 05/04/2021 00:43

Pippin sounds like a squirrel’s name.
Not a child’s.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/04/2021 00:44

Adorable pet name or as nn for a young boy with the classic name Phillip on the BC. I personally wouldn't want to be called Pippin as an adult, much too cutesy.
