Regret my daughter’s name Phoebe

Does anyone else regret the name you choose for your child?

My daughter’s Phoebe and I worry that other people might not like it ( didn’t realize it’s a marmite name ) that it’s too hard to spell ( we get Pheobe already didn’t think it would annoy me but it does ) or that she’ll get teased and be called Beefy ( didn’t think about that as a potential nickname when I choose her name ) or something else that’s mean .

Unfortunately it’s too late to change it now. She’s nearly 3. Other mums with a Phoebe, are you happy with that name?

Phoebe is lovely. Never heard that it's a marmite name. Definitely never heard it leading to a nickname of "Beefy".

There are LOTS of dreadful names out there, along with made-up novelty spellings of perfectly normal names. And there are plenty, plenty of names that get misspelt so that is not really a major worry.

There are enough Phoebes about that I think most people could spell it. It's a nice name and I can't think why people wouldn't like it and can't think of any mean nicknames that are obvious. My niece is called Phoebe. Our daughter's name is mispronounced sometimes and my very common first name often gets mispelt - most names will have some minor issue like that.

I have a 14 year old Phoebe and she loves the name and we get so many compliments on her name. Everyone calls her Pheebs, or Phee, never heard of Beefy!! It’s a great name and super unique! Out of all her schools she’s been in, there hasn’t been another Phoebe and the schools are huge!

It's a lovely name. Of course some people won't like it but that's true of literally every single name. I don't think it's a marmite name at all. I only know a couple, one in her 30s and one aged 5 and they're both normal, kind, popular people. Never heard either of them called beefy.

It's a bit dangerous looking at name opinions online, there will always be someone who hates your child's name. IRL I've had lovely comments on my children's names (separately and together) but some of the highlights I've seen online are that DD1's name is for a cow and DD2's name is for a dog

It has beautiful origins but I would say is quite a well known, normal uncontroversial name. I think most names have the potential for the 'Beefy' and 'Peebee' level of nickname.

OP, I will offer you a different perspective. My parents changed my name because they changed their mind when I was one. I don't remember the original name being my name, but it's still a massive headache sometimes.

This is what happened (with fake names). My name at birth was Lucy Catherine. My parents decided to shorten Catherine to Katie and called me Katie. To all intents and purposes, that was my name. They registered me at school as Katie, doctors as Katie etc, but Lucy was on my birth certificate.

At 17, I applied to uni and UCAS flag that my name is Lucy but my GCSEs are Katie. Take loads of phone calls and a solicitor letter to persuade them that both are me.

My parents are like, oh shit, we better change her name by deed poll. We do that, but not before my national insurance number is issued as Lucy.

I have told HMRC several times but it never gets updated and they still think I'm Lucy. I'm 36 now and recently started a new job and it messed up my tax because work said they didn't employ a Lucy XXX. It was a massive pain to sort out.

There have been other things over the years.

So I guess what I'm saying primarily is you have chosen a beautiful name and it doesn't need changing. BUT if you do change it, please get your admin in order and change by deed pool straight away so as not to cause your DD trouble in future!

Hello! My name is Phoebe, and I adore my name, and I've never wished to change it! People constantly spell it wrong, though, but it's become somewhat of a joke now 😅. I also have been nicknamed Beefy alot, as well as Dweeby, but what child doesn't have bad nicknames?!

What is it with people digging up these zombie threads?
Really annoying when clicking to comment and then realising it's from two and a half years ago!

For what it's worth, I was going to say I love the name Phoebe!
