Regret my daughter’s name Phoebe

Does anyone else regret the name you choose for your child?

My daughter’s Phoebe and I worry that other people might not like it ( didn’t realize it’s a marmite name ) that it’s too hard to spell ( we get Pheobe already didn’t think it would annoy me but it does ) or that she’ll get teased and be called Beefy ( didn’t think about that as a potential nickname when I choose her name ) or something else that’s mean .

Unfortunately it’s too late to change it now. She’s nearly 3. Other mums with a Phoebe, are you happy with that name?

Happy for any support !🙂 Thanks !

It's a lovely name. No idea why people would say Beefy though the misspelling is something you/her will probably need to learn to live with.

Milkshake7489 · 25/03/2021 17:04

Phoebe is beautiful OP! I can't imagine anyone getting beefy from it either Smile

Crappyfridays7 · 25/03/2021 17:05

If kids are going to bully someone it wouldn’t matter what their name was. I got all sorts main one being goofy.
Phoebe is a Lovely name I did check I’d spelt it correctly there but I do that with names as I’m dyslexic. My own son is Ciaran and people struggle with that. I bet your little phoebe is wonderful and suits her name

CimCardashian · 25/03/2021 17:05

Everyone likes the name Phoebe don’t they?!
It’s lovely.

Will probably be shortened by teenagers to Phoebes which is also good.

Crosstrainer · 25/03/2021 17:05

Beefy? Don’t get it either. Phoebe is a nice, classic name. You’d be surprised if there were three in a class, but it’s a perfectly well known name. Can’t see any issue with it at all. Slightly difficult to spell, maybe - but kids get used to it. I honestly wouldn’t worry.

LunaLula83 · 25/03/2021 17:05

Oh put your big girl pants on. Any name has potential for teasing.

Bagamoyo1 · 25/03/2021 17:06

Phoebe is a lovely name. Yes the spelling may be tricky at first, but it’s only ever spelt that way, so there’s no confusion.
But what this thread reinforces is how utterly crazy it is for people to deliberately choose wacky spellings of common names.
We see it on MN all the time - I want to call my daughter Sarah but I’m going to spell it Saaiirahh - that sort of thing. I think it’s cruel to condemn your child to a lifetime of correcting the spelling of their name.
But like I say, Phoebe only has one spelling, so it’s easy.

Anystarinthesky · 25/03/2021 17:14

It's a lovely name.

Lorieandrews · 25/03/2021 17:16

I really really wanted to call my daughter Mona. I love that name and so many people told me to call her a name I love. It was after a special someone who begged me NOT to call her that as she hated her name so much

I ended Uk not calling her that. But to this day I wish I’d followed my heart. It’s my family. I love it. But then some days I’m so glad I didn’t. My kids don’t go to school. So wouldn’t have that social worry

Bananarama3star · 25/03/2021 17:17

I have a Phoebe. Still love the name. She has never had an issue with being called anything different? Occasionally people spell it wrong but that can happen with many names!

Starburst8 · 25/03/2021 17:22

I have a Phoebe in the family and never ever has she ever been called Beefy. I struggle to even grasp where that name comes from.
She often got called Pheebs but not in a bullying way.
I love the name Phoebe and really doubt your DD will get picked on for it.

BrintIg · 25/03/2021 17:22

What name do you wish you'd chosen instead, OP?

I bet you fifty quid I can come up with a potential misspelling and a rude nickname way less tenuously linked than Beefy for Phoebe.

Titterofwit · 25/03/2021 17:35

Its a great name. Dd loved my old copy of this book about a girl called Phoebe Beeberbee and named her favourite doll after the character. Something nice about the way it all trips off the tongue.

Batshitkerazy · 25/03/2021 17:42

I adore the name Phoebe, unfortunately my mums cat is called it, so I can’t have it for my future daughter! But otherwise I would, it’s lovely

Elderflower14 · 25/03/2021 17:43

I love the name. My son is profoundly deaf. When a friend of mine had a Phoebe he couldn't pronounce it properly and called her Peeboo!! ♥

youremyperson · 25/03/2021 17:48

@Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark that's amazing

zebragazebo · 25/03/2021 18:05

Love the name phoebe would be my top girls name but I already used it on my dog!

EvelynBeatrice · 25/03/2021 18:10

It’s a beautiful name. Not everyday, but not so uncommon as to present issues. Pretty for a little girl but respectable for an adult should she end up as a judge or a Dame of the British Empire!

IEat · 25/03/2021 18:13

So what if people hate it, I hate the name Nathaniel. IMO you 2 lovely names and mixed them into a crap one. But it’s just my opinion it doesn’t mean I go around hating people with that name

JosieB68 · 25/03/2021 18:15

Don’t have a Pheobe yet but hope to one day! I think it’s a beautiful name.

partyatthepalace · 25/03/2021 18:44

I don’t have a Phoebe, but it’s lovely - known but not overused. I know a couple and don’t think is a marmite name at all.

(The Beefy peebee comments are mental)

partyatthepalace · 25/03/2021 18:45

... also she is CLEARLY the best one in Friends

CormoranStrike · 25/03/2021 20:29

It’s a beautiful name and one I would love to have

FayLivvie · 26/03/2021 12:56

Phoebe is a beautiful name and not massively overused. X

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/03/2021 18:54

Phoebe is a lovely name. I wouldn't class it as a marmite name at all.
