My top 6 names at the moment are: Thera, Odera, Clarion, Amida, Ianthe and Raizel. I love these names, but got some backlash from friends and family, the only names they found tolerable were Odera with the suggestion to use Odie as a nickname and Clarion, what do you think? What’s your favourite name on that list, which one doesn’t work at all? Or perhaps other name suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️

I'm sorry, but I don't like any of them.
Are any of them actual names?

Erindove · 23/03/2021 02:37

Yes these are all actual names, although very rare in English speaking countries

Clarion happens to be the name of my housing association...giving me a particular hatred as it would just remind me of all the pointless letters they like to send!

How are you pronouncing Raizel? Of your list I quite like Ianfhe, but in my head I'm saying it I-an-thee which may not be how you're thinking it.

But other than Thera I haven't heard of any of them before.

DeedledeDee · 23/03/2021 02:52

Odette. -. (French heroine)

Ursula. -. (she bear)

Hermione

Iolanthe. -. (shortened to Iola)

Phoebe

Imogen

DeedledeDee · 23/03/2021 02:54

Odette could be shortened to Odie I guess

Only ever known 1 Ursula, very strong original.

Iolanthe can be shortened to Iola which is nice

Erindove · 23/03/2021 02:58

Oh thanks, I wasn’t familiar with the housing association, that’s something to consider... the pronunciation of Raizel would be similar to Hazel so Rai-zl. Yeah I’m also saying I-an-thee.

Thanks, a friend of mine named her daughter Ursula so I can’t use it, but I quite like Iola it‘s very sweet

Verity
Frida

ChocOrange1 · 23/03/2021 03:34

I like Ianthe but I wouldn't use it because nobody else would know how to spell it pronounce it and I couldn't be bothered spelling it out to every single person.

Raizel doesn't look like a name, it reminds me of raisins or razors. Hazel or Rachel are nice IMO

Tavannach · 23/03/2021 03:45

Amida or Odera. The others sound a bit harsh to me.

Artemis?

CallItLoneliness · 23/03/2021 03:52

Rowan, Valerie, Alexandrine

Seafog · 23/03/2021 03:54

Clarion is a hotel chain here, so that would be off my list

Ritascornershop · 23/03/2021 04:01

Your list is close to names I like. How about;
Theda, Odessa, Clio, Aminta, and Isolde.

Additionally I’ll throw in Odille, Cosima, and Petula.

Erindove · 23/03/2021 04:04

Aww I love Aminta, thank you so much

Raizel is very pretty. I quite like Thera but it sounds like someone with a speech impediment saying Sarah.
How about Theresa. Not particularly unusual but certainly uncommon for this era.
Other suggestions.
Thea. Zephanie. Trista. Eilidh (Ai-lee). Sharona. Farrah. Felicity. Cynthia
Marcella. Lakeisha. Tallulah. Elise.

Erindove · 23/03/2021 04:08

I love Artemis, but it’s gotten too popular, maybe I’ll change my mind and use it anyway, who knows!

Octavia. Isolde. Cassie.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2021 04:11

Thera - nothing wrong with this but it's not especially attractive imo. How about Vera? Or Hera?
Odera - 'Oh dear-a'? 'Odour-a'? I would not use this.
Clarion - sounds like a medication or a motel chain.
Amida - sounds very like a US healthcare group (Amita Health)
Ianthe - Lovely name
Raizel - not bad, but too close to raisin, razor.

Suggestions:
Eirene
Aphra
Flavia
Wynona
Ismene
Drusilla
Theodosia
Vita
Zita
Aerin
Dove
Berengaria
Elfrieda
Chrysanthi
Evadne
Dymphna
Regine
Christabel
Thisbe
Persis
Echo
Io
Sidonie
Jacinda
Hera
Charis
Celene
Petronella
Anstice
Mahalia

Erindove · 23/03/2021 04:19

I see what you mean, I actually live in Germany at the moment and Theresa is a very popular name here. I‘ve ALWAYS loved Cynthia, but that’s my sister in law‘s name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/03/2021 04:19

Ismay. Elsa. Augustina. Calliope. Delaney.

timeisnotaline · 23/03/2021 04:22

Clarion is a type of trumpet hence the adjective clarion ‘a clarion call rang out’.
Isolde? Odette I like too.

Erindove · 23/03/2021 04:23

Thank you! Hera, Io and Echo are wonderful names, we already have a Chrysanthi in the family 😊

serenity...i like that

Palavah · 23/03/2021 06:31

Petra

PandaFluff · 23/03/2021 06:34

I wouldn't tell your friends and family the name until she is here and named. There's always someone who won't like the name you choose and will try to change your mind!
