My top 6 names at the moment are: Thera, Odera, Clarion, Amida, Ianthe and Raizel. I love these names, but got some backlash from friends and family, the only names they found tolerable were Odera with the suggestion to use Odie as a nickname and Clarion, what do you think? What’s your favourite name on that list, which one doesn’t work at all? Or perhaps other name suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️

Raizel is my favourite of your original list

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2021 06:44

Sorry I don't like any of them.

OpusAnglicanum · 23/03/2021 06:50

Of your list I prefer Ianthe.
Not Clarion, it’s a hotel chain.

Or how about:
Araminta
Ariadne
Evadne
Thora
Thursa
Odile
Ngaire
Juno

Sandgrown1970 · 23/03/2021 06:50

Amida is ok and I think would be acceptable without making her a target for any teasing.
Raizel is nice but only if you emphasise the last syllable. Ray-ZEL. Otherwise it’s too close to Razor.

You can’t call a child Clarion. It’s a hotel chain. People with think it’s where she was conceived!

Odera sounds like Odour.

What do you mean, they found tolerable? Who is having this baby???
Erindove · 23/03/2021 08:03

@VinterKvinna Well some off my relatives think they have the right to decide which name we’re gonna use, but I really don’t wanna disappoint anyone so I’m trying to find a name that at least is “tolerable” to everyone

@PandaFluff Everyone was asking and giving us suggestions, so I made the mistake and told them what names I like

I love the name Gaia. Very pretty and unusual I think.

stormelf · 23/03/2021 08:13

Out of your list I really like Ianthe, it was a name we considered for DD

PandaFluff · 23/03/2021 08:16

I completely get it, it feels like a lot of pressure. This is your child though and they are the one living with the name. If there was ever a time to be selfish for you and your child and ignore everyone else then this is it Smile

Erindove · 23/03/2021 08:16

@stormelf yes that name is really growing on me!

I know a Xanthe, which is also a lovely strong name. Of your list I also like Raizel and Ianthe.
From pps suggestions, Gaia is lovely.

Erindove · 23/03/2021 08:20

I adore Gaia, adding it to the list, thank you!

Thirza
Astrid
Calliope

Twizbe · 23/03/2021 08:27

I wouldn't do Hera as she wasn't very nice. She sent snakes to kill Hercules in his crib as he was her husbands illegitimate son ....

Astrid is a wonderful name. Love it, but I've heard it a lot in the playground recently.

Clarion is a no because of the housing association. They are routinely bashed for being awful.

What about Araminta? There was a children's programme called Moondial where the main character was Araminta. I've loved that name since then.

Erindove · 23/03/2021 08:31

@PandaFluff thank you, I really appreciate it 😊

I hope she's going to private school op. Can see her having a tough time in the local comp with one of those

I love Ianthe and it and Thera are pretty normal. Raizel I hadn’t heard but is fine. Other three sound like company names and are used by corporations (plus clarion is also a trumpet call) so I’d avoid those.

It is worth finding a ‘tolerable’ name. My niece was named something quite out there. I feel for her as everyone still sniggers about her name. Also it comes with a weight of assumptions and I think she gets unfairly judged / stereotyped (it’s quite posh and actually she’s more a roll in the mud type of child). Sadly people are cruel.

DropDTuning · 23/03/2021 09:22

The Amidah is a very important Jewish prayer. Were you deliberately intending to reference it?
