My top 6 names at the moment are: Thera, Odera, Clarion, Amida, Ianthe and Raizel. I love these names, but got some backlash from friends and family, the only names they found tolerable were Odera with the suggestion to use Odie as a nickname and Clarion, what do you think? What’s your favourite name on that list, which one doesn’t work at all? Or perhaps other name suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️

If you live in Germany are you applying the German pronunciation? Germans can’t pronounce the th sound so you’d have ee-an-tuh for Ianthe and terra for Thera.

Thera is probably the best one.
Clarion sounds like a credit card
Odera sounds like a medicine
Amida is meh
Raizel sounds like a fairy tale villain

What about Calliope?

Clarion is a stereo/car radio company. Sorry op not really a fan of any of your names as none really flow. They are stark and bitey.

I like

Remiah
Serendipity
Angharad
Constance
Atlanta
Ffion
Gaia
Willow

My 10yr old DD is Ianthe. So I love that name obviously!

Never had anyone sniggering about it or commenting on it, apart from positively. Perhaps it depends where you live. Ianthe is certainly not the most out there name there is around here and among her peer group. It's pretty tame Smile but lovely!

Twizbe · 23/03/2021 10:12

Just adding a name I heard on location location location a few years ago, Timna. I just thought it was a beautiful girls name.

FlashBathroom · 23/03/2021 12:49

Avis

MusicWithRocksIn1t · 23/03/2021 13:01

It needs to be a name that will work for every day life. A friends child has a very pretty but unusual name and she is now 12 and refuses point blank to use or answer to it and instead goes by her much more normal middle name as she hates that no one knows how to pronounce or spell her name.

Just something to consider.

By all means chooce a name you love but remember your child will have to use that name for her whole life.

PattyPan · 23/03/2021 14:05

@FlashBathroom like the car hire company? Hmm

HandyHerPlumbing · 23/03/2021 14:41

jut stumbled across this.
What did you go with, and could people pronounce it - and spell it?!

I doubt baby is here and named already!

Isabeau

Isabeau of Bavaria was known as the she-wolf of Europe.

PraiseBee · 23/03/2021 14:55

Tullia - daughter of Cicero

FlashBathroom · 23/03/2021 17:11

@PattyPan yup. It's also a name Smile

Erindove · 23/03/2021 17:21

@HandyHerPlumbing we definitely haven’t decided yet, but i found some new names I love, Laska (like Alaska without the A), Lilaia (Lih-LAY-ah) and Lowen, even some family members like those names which got my hopes a little up!

OP posts:
bellabelly · 23/03/2021 17:50

I heard an unusual one the other day - Clivea. I thought that was unusual and very elegant.

JanewaysBun · 23/03/2021 18:00

I thought of Clover for DD but wasn't brave enough to use!

PattyPan · 23/03/2021 18:02

@Erindove you can’t use Lowen if you live in Germany! Confused Laska is also not good. Lilaia is ok

@FlashBathroom not a useable one though!

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 23/03/2021 18:09

Would Elowen be an option? It’s a gorgeous name.

Laska sounds like a curry (Laksa).
Lilaia sounds like a knock off tampon, like a Lilet from Lidl.

Alaia is a nice Spanish name. Al-ay-a

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 23/03/2021 18:17

Freya.

Ellmau · 23/03/2021 18:29

Ianthe is the only one I like on your list, OP.

What about:

Damaris
Rowan
Miranda
Rosalind
Livia

HuntingoftheSnark · 23/03/2021 18:37

I absolutely love Ianthe. How about Isolde, Hebe, Adelaide? I have a Miranda so obviously love that too.

waltzingparrot · 23/03/2021 18:43

Old English, Alfreda

user1493494961 · 23/03/2021 18:52

Ianthe is OK, dislike the rest. Odie reminds me of Odious and the Clarion used to be our local newsletter.
