My top 6 names at the moment are: Thera, Odera, Clarion, Amida, Ianthe and Raizel. I love these names, but got some backlash from friends and family, the only names they found tolerable were Odera with the suggestion to use Odie as a nickname and Clarion, what do you think? What’s your favourite name on that list, which one doesn’t work at all? Or perhaps other name suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️

Fin Raziel was the good sorceress in the film Willow so I like that one.

Following on from that some others in the film are

Kaiya
Sorcha
Elora
Danan
Asleen

Don't tell family your names.
Always wait until the baby is here and then announce the name.
Both my dp's who are separated hated my dd's name when I told them after her birth.
They soon got used to it.
@HandyHerPlumbing we definitely haven’t decided yet, but i found some new names I love, Laska (like Alaska without the A), Lilaia (Lih-LAY-ah) and Lowen, even some family members like those names which got my hopes a little up!
You are old enough to have a baby, you are old enough to chose her name.

Tell them you will let them know when she arrives. They want to name a child, they can have their own one.

@Erindove,
Thera - theremin, Thea is so popular. Don't like it
Odera - Odour-a
Clarion - Trumpet
Amida - nothingy
Ianthe - is it Eye-anthy or Yanthie?
Raizel - is it Raze-ul? Rye-zul? quite nice

They're a bit try-hard

DataColour · 24/03/2021 09:37

We pronounce it Eye-anthy

FontyMcFontface · 24/03/2021 09:43

Clarion just means a shrill trumpet to me, not a particularly nice name IMO.

Ianthe, whilst unusual is quite well known, I would think, and wouldn’t expect an issue with pronunciation. Ditto Xanthe which is more common.

I like Odette. I also know an Odile.

Great names except for Clarion.

What about Hero?

That's my "regret" name. Both my girls have fantastic names, but Hero is GORGEOUS.

BABOUSHKA

Lansonmaid · 25/03/2021 14:57

My mother name was Zita, she hated it when people shortened it to Zeet though (sounds like a fly spray so I can see why she hated it). I actually loved my great grandmother’s names - Rosina May

They are stark and bitey

I love stark bitey names.

My favourites from your list op are Thera and Ianthe.

Clarion make car radios, as well as the hotel chain, housing association etc etc.

I love Artemis, as suggested by a pp. I’m surprised you say it’s too popular. Really? Never met one.

My contributions are Anouk and Noor.

Drunkenmonkey · 26/03/2021 20:08

Ianthe is lovely, and not too out there at all.
To someone who said 'I hope she's going to private school" I really don't think that is an issue for names like these.
At our local comp we have all sorts of names from all different nationalities, and kids just take names at face value as they don't really know which names are common or rare. It might be hard if you are called Bear or Juicy or something as those names stand out to kids, but I don't think these names would.

Ianthe also has the Thea nickname option too which is nice. I also love Xanthe.

I love the name Hero - you can’t get much stronger than that either! Or for gender neutral you could have Jaime or Harper (or go straight for James or Blake). Iona is a good strong name.
