My top 6 names at the moment are: Thera, Odera, Clarion, Amida, Ianthe and Raizel. I love these names, but got some backlash from friends and family, the only names they found tolerable were Odera with the suggestion to use Odie as a nickname and Clarion, what do you think? What’s your favourite name on that list, which one doesn’t work at all? Or perhaps other name suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️

Ianthe is my favourite from your list.

Do you like Halcyon? It's unusual but easy to pronounce. I know of an old lady with that name.

Astraturf · 23/03/2021 19:32

What about Sierra? Similar to those names but more accessible for those who think the names you like wouldn't go down well in a comp

YoniAndGuy · 23/03/2021 19:56

Ianthe is lovely and perfectly normal, I’d use that.

YoniAndGuy · 23/03/2021 19:59
@VinterKvinna Well some off my relatives think they have the right to decide which name we’re gonna use, but I really don’t wanna disappoint anyone so I’m trying to find a name that at least is “tolerable” to everyone
Don’t!!!

This is YOUR baby!

Do you honestly think they would do the same for you?!

Choose what you like!- it is none of their business and, believe me- they will get used to what you choose and it just won’t matter.

Blaze, Ginger, George, Billie.

@Twizbe

Just adding a name I heard on location location location a few years ago, Timna. I just thought it was a beautiful girls name.
I used to work with a Timna @Twizbe - years ago now and I'd totally forgotten. It's lovely isn't it?

OP
Ianthe is beautiful but yes, if you're in Germany the 'th' will be tricky
Thea I like better than Thera
Calliope
Diana
Ursula
Grace, actually, is a very strong name
Cassandra
Gaia

You cannot call a child Clarion!

Why do people on MN always suggest Phaedra Confused It’s like naming your child Oedipus!

Soggybiscuits17 · 23/03/2021 21:08

I like Andromache (with Greek pron an-dro-ma-khee, not the French pron an-dro-mash), and she was a wonderful strong character but she had an awful end after the fall of Troy when she was basically forcefully taken as a concubine, so I don't feel I could ever use it. Always best to check what happened to these mythical characters.

TatianaBis · 23/03/2021 23:23

I like tragic mythical characters - Dido, Ophelia, Yseult, Electra, Delilah.

Sticky ends don’t put me off a good name.
