If you named your children after family members...

...which family members did you name them after?

I don't have any children but if I do have kids, a boy would get my maternal grandad and maternal great-grandads names as middle names (or twin boys would get one each). A girl will definitely get my maternal grandmas name and possibly my mums name (my mum hates her name but there are no alternatives to it) these would be all be middle names.

My daughter has my mum’s first name as her middle name, which is also my middle name too! My mum is incredible and has sacrificed a lot for me and my siblings, so it felt really special to incorporate her name into my daughter’s, and she was touched by the gesture.

AlwaysLatte · 10/03/2021 21:45

My son is named after his grandmother.

devildeepbluesea · 10/03/2021 21:46

DD has my mum's first name as her middle name. My mum died before she could meet either DD or my nephew.

HarrietSchulenberg · 10/03/2021 21:46

2 named after grandfathers and the other one after another male relative. All names we liked anyway.

EspressoExpresso · 10/03/2021 21:46

My DC is first name [DH grandad] middle name [my grandad]

Pyjamaface · 10/03/2021 21:48

DS had my Dads first name as his middle name.

I'm named after my Grandmothers (first and middle names) but I'm the youngest of 6 so I reckon my parents had just ran out of ideas when I arrived 😆

lljkk · 10/03/2021 21:48

Relationships to DC (first or middle names): dad, great-uncle, grandfather, great-gran

orangejuicer · 10/03/2021 21:48

DS has my dad's name as his middle name. I couldn't go for it as his first name as my brother also has that name so we would have three in the immediate family!

nomorespaghetti · 10/03/2021 21:48

My daughter was named after my nana, and my son has DH’s late dad’s name for his middle name

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 10/03/2021 21:50

Daughter has my mums first name as one middle name.
Son has my deseeded brothers first name as a middle name and my dads first name as other.

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2021 21:52

My middle DS shares his dad's middle name, chosen because I really like it. I couldn't give my child a name I didn't like, which ruled out all the grandparents' names. He shares his first name with three out of his four great grandfathers, but that's because I love the name.

My name is my grandmother's middle name, and I love that I have that connection to her.

bumpdownthestairs · 10/03/2021 21:54

My sons middle name is his uncles, grandads and 2x great uncle's name! Would have potentially used it as a first name but another family member had used it on his father's side.

SquirtleSquad · 10/03/2021 21:56

Our first born son has my maiden name as his first name. I was the last of my maiden name in our family.

MissDollyMix · 10/03/2021 21:57

Conveniently my father and my maternal grandfather had the same first name so it was a no-brainer to use it as one of my DS’s middle names. Unfortunately, I don’t actually like the name, hence it would never have been a first name!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 10/03/2021 21:58

DS 1 - First name is a family name going back 9 generations, middle names are after my favourite uncle and DH's uncle

DD1 - First name we both liked, middle names after my maternal grandmother and DH's paternal grandmother

DD2 - First name after DH's maternal grandmother, second name my paternal grandmother, third name after my cousin/my favourite girl's name that I couldn't use because we didn't want a Big X/Little X situation

DS2 - First/second names after my grandfathers, third name because we liked it.

DD3 - First name because we liked it, second name after a favourite aunt who died as a teen, third name after a special friend.

weegiemum · 10/03/2021 21:58

Ds has 2 middle names, my dad and my dh's grandad

Dd2 has dh's grandmas name (she went by her middle name and we used her first name) and my grans name as a middle name. Dh's grandma died 3 weeks before dd2 was born so it gave a lot of people some comfort in a sort of " circle of life" way. We would have used the name anyway and it was a favourite even without the family connection.

Dd1 wasn't named after anyone!

takingmytimeonmyride · 10/03/2021 22:00

Ds1 - my brother and my cousin. My cousin died when I was a teenager and my brother died when ds1 was 2. (2 names)

Ds2 - Dh's younger brother

Ds3 - dh's older brother, his dad (was his middle name) and was also my brother's middle name (all had the same name)

Ds4 - dh's sister, and my mums middle name (shortened version is a male name) and my uncle. (All had the same name again)

Ds5 - ran out of family names so he got the name of a character from one of my favourite childhood books (so nearly family as I'd grown up with themGrin)

MsSquiz · 10/03/2021 22:04

My DD isn't, but was almost named after my maternal grandmother and an extended version of my mum's name as her middle name

If we'd had a boy, he either would have had the middle name of my grandmother's brother and my mum's maiden name as a middle name or a unrelated first name with DH's brother's name as a middle name

Rainbowandscarlett · 10/03/2021 22:12

1-my grandmothers name
2-my grandads name,my ex’s grandads name and my dads name
3-my brothers names
4-male version of my mother’s name and a jw I grew up with
5-my ex’s brothers name
6-my mother’s middle name,my great grandmothers name and my aunties middle name (all 3 names are really trendy now but where not at the time)
I wanted all first names to be ones that where their own and chosen by me-the middle names where to honour people who I cared deeply about

YorkshireIndie · 10/03/2021 22:15

DS has his grandfather's name as his middle name. If he had been a girl he would have had his great grandmother's name as a first name and his grandmother's name as his middle name

PeigiSu · 10/03/2021 22:15

Conveniently my dad, grandad and great grandad all had the same name so we got a good deal on DS’s middle name!

gollymissdolly · 10/03/2021 22:23

My dad and my father in law had the same first name ,so we used that as a middle name when DS was born.
I wouldn't have inflicted either of my grandmothers names on my DD so we just chose names we loved.

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/03/2021 22:32

DD first name (on BC not day to day name) OH’s maternal nan and great nan’s name and middle name my paternal nan’s name.

DS first name a masculine version of my maternal grandmother’s name and middle name OHs/his dads/granddads/great granddad’s middle name.

queenofthelamas · 10/03/2021 22:33

One of DS middle names is after his great grandad who died just before he was born

23PissOffAvenueWF · 10/03/2021 22:36

DS is named after DH’s uncle who he was closed to, and died young (first name) and my uncle, who I am close to, and who never had children of his own (middle name).

DD is named after my Mum (but with an ‘a’ on the end) - she was an amazing Mum and died before I met DH, and DH’s Mum (middle name). I’m also named after both my grandmothers, both of whom had died before I was born.
