Scout?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with our second baby. We don't know babies gender.
My Husband and I LOVE the name Scout for a girl.
Just not sure if I'm brave enough to use it? Is it totally ridiculous?
I also love Maeve & Wren.

DD1 is Lara, which I still love and it suits her so much.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous, and think it sits in a similar category to Wren myself. It’s not my style but I don’t reckon it would be out of place given the fact that this style of naming is relatively popular just now.

My only thing is it not necessarily fitting with Lara that well, whereas Wren or Maeve would probably work better (based on sound alone), but that’s just me. Let us know what you decide!

HummusAndCarrotSticks · 10/03/2021 16:26

I really like it!

I also really like Maeve and Wren. Of the three I think maybe I like Maeve best, but it is close!

BlueberryPancake21 · 10/03/2021 16:32

I'm not keen - sounds like a dog to me, probably a terrier - but I may be old fashioned! I feel like Wren and Maeve are both unusual without being as out there and would fit with Lara better. But if you love it go for it - everyone will get used to it!

Nell96 · 10/03/2021 16:37

I'm not keen - sounds quite hard, especially in comparison to Lara. But it's not horrible. I actually know one, and never batted an eyelid at the name, so if you love it, go for it.

MrsWooster · 10/03/2021 16:38

Gorgeous, and goes well with Lara.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 10/03/2021 16:38

Oh god.

Lovely name for a border collie.

DiabeticFirstBaby · 10/03/2021 16:39

I know someone with a dog called Scout

ILoveShula · 10/03/2021 16:42

I like it and it would suit a dog. i don't like Maeve or Wren at all.

eddiemairswife · 10/03/2021 16:46

To Kill a Mocking Bird is popular today. Someone on another thread was enquiring about Atticus.

user1149254825482534232 · 10/03/2021 16:46

I don't like it. She'll get a lifetime of shit jokes about scouting.

luckymagnoliatree · 10/03/2021 16:47

I like it! It reminds me of reading to kilns mockingbird when I was at school (I actually also really like the name atticus from it too for a boy 😆)

I think perhaps Maeve goes slightly better with Lara, as it sounds a bit softer but if you love Scout then I say go for it!

Mosaic123 · 10/03/2021 16:49

I think it sounds like Lara's brother. Sorry.

ZooeyS · 10/03/2021 16:51

Love it.

Mavedrai · 10/03/2021 17:03

Honestly, I'd be annoyed at my parents if they named me Scout and my big sister Lara, which is a beautiful and romantic name... and all the moreso in comparison.

I'd recommend going with Maeve. Maeve sounds lovely and connotes a strong, powerful woman (Queen Medb). Scout is cute but better as a childhood nn.

VenusClapTrap · 10/03/2021 18:53

It’s not my cup of tea. I like Wren though.

JoesM12 · 10/03/2021 18:57

Thanks so much everyone!
I wanted some honest opinions!
Will have to wait and see if she is a she and which one she suits most I guess!

I actually love this name and actually met one - I was surprised how well it worked in real life.

Having said that, I think To Kill a Mockingbird is boring af

BackforGood · 10/03/2021 19:22

Not for me either.
I assumed you meant for a boy, from the title.
However, I don't like it either way.
It does sound like something people would name a dog, to me.

Mind, I don't like Maeve or Wren at all, either.

Lara is such a nice name. Smile

ILoveShula · 10/03/2021 19:26

Dib dib dib

daisypond · 10/03/2021 19:37

No. And nor does it go with Lara.

willibald · 10/03/2021 19:42

No. It's a dog's name. The little girl in To Kill a Mockingbird's name was Jean, FFS.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/03/2021 19:55

Lara is gorgeous and I think Maeve works with it perfectly - both are elegant, romantic/poetic sounding, relatively underused names.

Wren is nice, but a different style to Lara to me (more quirky/hippy). Scout is very much a nn for me (for any S beginning name?) or a fun middle name - I don't think I'd risk it in the first name spot/as a given name personally.

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2021 19:56

God no, it must be the ugliest name for a girl I've ever seen. It sounds ugly and looks unpleasant written down.

partyatthepalace · 10/03/2021 19:58

I like it but it’s a strong flavour, maybe call her Elizabeth Scout (or something) - that way you can use Scout, but if she bloody hates it there is an easy get out.

Love Lara, not so keen on Maeve or Wren, what about Robin, Fern, Laurel or Bay...

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/03/2021 20:09

I love it and used it as a mn for dd (obviously 😂). I do feel it has a different "vibe" to Lara though and feel Maeve might be a better match for siblings
