Wild card - Emerald

jemimafuddleduck · 02/03/2021 21:37

I've posted what feels like 100 times so far about our baby name for DD due in 2 weeks.

Middle name will be Jean - that's pretty much a certainty.

We had almost decided on the first name Darcy - surname begins with a D and I like the alliteration.

But, we have a bit of a wild card alternative for the first name - Emerald, nn Emmy.

Can I have honest thoughts? Is it too "out there"?

So -

Darcy Jean

Or

Emerald Jean?

Emerald, I like it - unusual but not out there, strong but feminine

I will be honest I say I hate Darcy - think it’s made up and twee

Were you the Aeryn Jean lady?! I like that too

icelollycraving · 02/03/2021 21:46

I like Emerald. I think it can be shortened to something twee when she’s little and it’s quite a bold name for an adult.

ParisJeTAime · 02/03/2021 21:48

Oh I really like it op! I'd go Emerald!

But Darcy Jean is nice too.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/03/2021 21:48

I think she was in a Delderfield novel. It might have been "Diana". Not awfully becoming.

Mrsbclinton · 02/03/2021 21:51

I met an Emerald once and loved the name so different & elegant.

jemimafuddleduck · 02/03/2021 21:52

@partyatthepalace Yes I was the Aeryn Jean lady! But that thread put me off the name because so many people were slagging it off / arguing about the pronunciation 🤣

Emerald is beautiful and one of my favourite names. I do like it much more than Darcy. Oh please use it OP!

meow1989 · 02/03/2021 21:56

Ooh I didn't even read through all of the op before I was about to suggest Emma as a nickname! I really like it

tuttifuckinfruity · 02/03/2021 21:57

Emerald could be nice.

Darcy I just don't think is ever nice, sorry. Agree with pp who says it sounds made-up and twee.

jemimafuddleduck · 02/03/2021 21:58

Yes, Emma could be a nn too...

Wow, lots more positive responses than I had thought. I'm even more tempted now. DH likes both names so is on board with either 😌

Yes, like it

Gigia · 02/03/2021 22:00

I love Emerald although also really like Darcy

Well those posters are awful (not at all like me being rude about Darcy😁), I like how you have continued the Emersld Isle theme, it’s a sign 💫

ParisJeTAime · 02/03/2021 22:01

Yay! I really think you should go for Emerald. Emma is a lovely name to shorten it to as well, or Emmy as you say.

tuttifuckinfruity · 02/03/2021 22:01

....if you like the alliteration of D names:

Diana Jean
Daisy Jean
Dorothy Jean
Della Jean
Daria Jean
Dilys Jean

All better than Darcy imo

Moonstone1234 · 02/03/2021 22:02

Emerald is lovely. Unusual but striking

bootlebum · 02/03/2021 22:03

Emerald!!! I love it!

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/03/2021 22:03

Emerald - gorgeous name. Emmy is a great nn

ParisJeTAime · 02/03/2021 22:04

Did I just say "yay"? Not sure where that came from 😂🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️.
rockinaftermidnite · 02/03/2021 22:04

I like Emerald.

Darcy reminds me of Jane Austen's Mr Darcy.

RoundedTum · 02/03/2021 22:05

I much prefer Emerald to Darcy.

Lots of little Darcys around these days, Emerald is more unusual as well as being absolutely beautiful.

NeverTrustaRabbit · 02/03/2021 22:08

It's a lovely name, but coupled with Jean it sounds a bit too close to Emerald Green.

I know middle names are seldom used.....but something to consider.

Have you considered Dulcie.....think that Dulcie Jean flows better than Darcey

Dinosauraddict · 02/03/2021 22:11

I really like Emerald. Unusual but flattering.

SpeckledyHen · 02/03/2021 22:12

Emerald is wonderful. Emmy is cute .

jemimafuddleduck · 02/03/2021 22:23

Ooh - someone has pointed out Emerald Jean might sounds like Emerald Green Confused I hadn't thought of this!!

Do people think that would be an issue? I mean, obviously day to day her middle name wouldn't be used, but even so....
