We're expecting DD in spring and having trouble deciding on a final name. Wanted to try and avoid anything that's in the top 20-30 as my name is quite common!

Which do you prefer?

  • Erin
  • Martha
  • Maya (although not sure if the pronunciation will be an issue, I'm thinking to rhyme with fire/liar)
  • Nola

Erin by a million miles. Strong and classy. Love Erica too.
Maya is ten a penny. Millions of them. It's the new Millie.
Agree Martha is dreary and uninspiring.
Nola just sounds made up.

Love Erin

Firebird83 · 11/02/2021 23:05

Martha, definitely.

babbaloushka · 11/02/2021 23:27

Nola

babbaloushka · 11/02/2021 23:28

Martha sounds a bit wet and reminds me of a book my DC read at school about a christian girl called Martha.

rach2713 · 11/02/2021 23:32

I have a daughter called Erin Mae and get so many complements on it..

PetraRabbit · 11/02/2021 23:44

Martha of course! So beautiful.

Mya sounds about as top 20 as it's possible to be,so not what you're looking for.
Nola is nice enough- I'd assume very Irish
Erin isn't a very attractive sounding name and so different to the others.

Overdoor · 11/02/2021 23:50

@DarcyJack

Martha unless Irish then Erin is also good
Erin just says ‘packet soup’ to most Irish people. It’s not much used as a name.

OP, Martha by a mile.

wildasthewind · 12/02/2021 00:09

Erin is beautiful

danascully96 · 12/02/2021 02:54

Maya is gorgeous... it is not naff. Maya Angelou is perhaps the most famous namesake. Polish spelling is Maia, no?

Not keen on the others.

Bluesername · 12/02/2021 07:05

Maya

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 12/02/2021 07:13

Martha is a lovely name.

Nola / Ebola Ebola/Nola

Sausagedog1 · 12/02/2021 10:10

Very different styles of name. I don't mind Nola but much prefer Nala. Erin is a bit bland.
I think Martha is quite marmite, I really am not keen, sounds old fashioned in a frumpy way to me but maybe if I met a little Martha it would change my perception. I love Marta.
Maya is lovely. I would choose Maya
I also love Kaya/Kaia

CharlieBoo · 13/02/2021 11:12

Martha

Martha or Erin. Nola sounds made-up.

LarkDescending · 13/02/2021 12:01

Martha by a mile!

LittleTiger007 · 13/02/2021 23:48

All good names. Martha or Maya for me

YoniAndGuy · 14/02/2021 14:19
