Hi MN!
I am on maternity leave, expecting DC1 in a few weeks and I’ve grown really interested in names for the past months.
I find it fascinating and I just bought this great book “The Baby Name Wizard” that Swistle and other name bloggers use.
If anyone is interested, I can copy/paste in this thread what the book says about the name(s) of your choice for your DC or give you ideas of names that are in the same style, still according to the book.
it’s just an idea as I have time on my hands and love speaking about names, hopefully you can find it useful or find some inspiration!

@Justmuddlingalong yes I thought about that right after posting. I think if it's 'fair use', you can, remnants from my law classes but I'm not sure about posting the full extract which I will abstain from doing.
If you're using the book to inform your own commentary, it's doesn't infringe copyright though, so maybe it's best if I just say: buy this book, it's amazing "The Baby Name Wizard" by Laura Wattenberg :) stick to saying the categories the book makes a name pertain to, along with some suggestions of my own, informed by my now extensive collection of name books!

Congratulations on two lovely names! Freddie is one of my personal favourites because of the character of Room with a View. Do you live in London by any chance? I have heard a couple of birth announcements of little Freddies, seems to be gaining in popularity over there!
Chloe according to darkgreener.com, in England and Wales, is down from 2nd to 39th in popularity. It's depicted in my names books as 'Vintage Charm' and 'New Classic' and is also an appellation of the Greek goddess Demeter.
Freddie for a boy has increased in popularity and is up from 290th to 14th. While the Baby Wizard doesn't have a formal entry for it and places it as a variant of Frederick in the 'Stately Classic' category.

Rafferty, Rafe and Arthur please!

well isn't Rafferty on an upwards trend @Overthinkingalways! From 0 babies named Rafferty in England & Wales in 1996 to be ranked 282 in 2019. Rafe would be listed in my books as a variant of Rafferty, and Rafferty itself in the 'Surnames' category that appeal to creative namers with their freshness, while their familiarity and heritage keeps them down to earth; the perfect new-millenium combo.
Lovely meaning as well, according to Nameberry "comes from the Irish "floodtide, abundance, prosperity".

Arthur is a solid, popular name, ranked number 4 in 2019 in popularity, with a solid upward trend (see graph). The Baby Wizard places it in the 'Stately Classic' category, as Frederick, George, Walter, Alfred and Louis.

@bubs765 Poppy is a feminine given name derived from the name of the flower "poppy", derived from the Old English popæg and referring to various species of Papaver.
I found no other etymology of the name and my books place it in the 'Nature and Virtues' category, along with names such as Clover, Ruby, Dahlia and Mercy.
Lovely name IMO!
Grace is a Vintage Charm name much beloved by British parents as well. They both go really well together!

@buntingandstarcharts Daisy is 'the cutest and lightest of the classic flower names'. Its sister names are Poppy, Rosie, Violet and Lucy.
It's classified as a 'Nature and Virtue' and 'Vintage Charm' categories, as the Poppy entry above.
Ella is 'Vintage Charm' and ' Short & Sweet' as well as 'Liquid' (flows easily and nicely without any hard sounds').
Ella is still very popular and growing, same upwards trend as Daisy. Ella is still the most popular of the two, ranking 13th in England and Wales in 2019, vs Daisy on the 31st. Poppy by the way @bubs765 is very close to Daisy in terms of popularity, at the 17th rank in 2019.

Daisy is a personal favourite of mine for the Great Gatsby reference, and Poppy is more modern.

@babbaloushka tough decision, in terms of popularity, Astrid has been catapulted at the top of the chart, still way out of the top 100 but currently at the 316th position in England and Wales.

So Astrid is in 316th position, Estrella is rare and Violet is the most popular of the three, in 51st position.

They have very different feels and styles IMO and in the opinion of my books.While Estrella doesn't have a formal entry, Estella does and is placed in the 'Elegant Antique' category, along with Delia, Lavinia, Emeline and Helena.
I would have thought Astrid and Estrella both have the etymology of 'star' but despite their similarities, Astrid is unrelated to Astra, a Latin name meaning “of the stars.” It is is a girl's name of Norse origin meaning "divinely beautiful". Estrella though means "star" and is a variant of the Greek and Old Norse name Asta, the Old French and Latin name Estelle, and the Latin name Stella.

Astrid is considered a 'cool Nordic classic', 'Exotic and Traditional' and I would add from personal experience that it is a very common name in France (lovely one!).
