Hi MN!
I am on maternity leave, expecting DC1 in a few weeks and I’ve grown really interested in names for the past months.
I find it fascinating and I just bought this great book “The Baby Name Wizard” that Swistle and other name bloggers use.
If anyone is interested, I can copy/paste in this thread what the book says about the name(s) of your choice for your DC or give you ideas of names that are in the same style, still according to the book.
Flowers it’s just an idea as I have time on my hands and love speaking about names, hopefully you can find it useful or find some inspiration!

Just post a name here and ask me to search for the entry or ask “if I like this name for a girl/boy” what other name would I like.

Thank you! Love the fact that they have both come up as Timeless!

Hi @Dillybear, if you like names with a 'th' sound in them (love them too :), you might like:
Tabitha
Thea (love this one)
Theodora
Athena
Althea
Edith
Katherine
Elspeth (variant of Elizabeth)
While they don't pertain to a single category, the style of the names you like (Martha, Esther, Elizabeth) is quite similar, I would place them in the 'Stately Classic' and 'Solid Citizens' category.
In the same style, you might like, in addition to the list above: Alice, Margaret, Julia, Sarah, Victoria.

@CaffiSaliMali the book has a whole section of Celtic names and I can only encourage you to buy it if you like this style and feel. No Eira entry, the closest is Erin.
A few in the Celtic category that I like:
Eleri
Dilys
Ailsa
Elin
Enya
Moira
Orla

@sylbunny let's see, Toby and Sylvia (love this name). Sylvia is in the 'Solid Citizens' that I explained above and 'Elegant Antiques', and is one of the first 1930s names to be regaining its appeal. As the author says, and I agree very much with that 'the magic letter "V" has a way of breathing new life into old names. My bet on the next vintage trend is Vivian, and Ava/Eva is already there.
Toby is a funny one as it is placed in both the 'Surfer Sixties' category and the 'Shakespearean' one, which seem to be a bit...antinomic :D I think we can agree it is a versatile name, now entering life as a modern Tobias. That two-for-one nickname combo is the stylish route today but Toby is perfectly good as a full name as well!

@buntingandstarcharts what's your favourite between the three? :)

Whatsyourflava · 10/02/2021 12:24

You didn't ask me but mine are Esme and Lucy in particular. Lovely list of names

MooseBreath · 10/02/2021 12:54

Westley please!

Namingtrends · 10/02/2021 13:21

Thank you @Whatsyourflava love getting opinions as can't decide! :)

buntingandstarcharts · 10/02/2021 17:45

@Namingtrends I like Eliza best, I'm a teacher and teach lots and lots of Lucy's (depends if popularity bothers you?) but it is also a gorgeous name. Esme - which pronunciation esmay or esmee? I should know which is the 'correct' way but alas I do not. Do you prefer Ella or Daisy for me Smile

buntingandstarcharts · 10/02/2021 17:45

*Lucys

sylbunny · 10/02/2021 18:12

@Namingtrends love this! Thank you so much!

Namingtrends · 10/02/2021 18:20

@buntingandstarcharts both are lovely but I am very fond of Daisy!

Polecat03 · 10/02/2021 18:27

If you get the chance, would love to know more about Fiona and Ramona :)

kittycat863 · 10/02/2021 18:57

Oh very cool! Would you mind please giving me a run-down on Alexander?

Namingtrends · 10/02/2021 19:24

Hi @MooseBreath I'm sorry but there is no entry for Westley!

Namingtrends · 10/02/2021 19:32

@Polecat03 Fiona and Ramona, here we go!
Fiona is as you must know very popular these days and is 'English' and 'Celtic' styles, a "romantic knockout with a playful spirit". In the same vein, Isla, Teagan, Kiera,Nora, Daphne. I was actually interested in the etymology on the Celtic side nd the meaning 'white' is lovely!
Ramona is a character in my favourite book '9 Stories' by Salinger (hence my love for Esme too :). It is categorised in the 'Solid Citizens' and 'Literary and Artistic' categories, along with Rosalie and Anita which I both absolutely adore. It is a 'romantic choice for many years, thanks to a popular novel in the 1880s nd a popular song in the 1920s'. I'm not familiar with either but maybe you are?
Are you hesitating between the two names or is it already names of your DDs?

Namingtrends · 10/02/2021 19:34

@kittycat863 Alexander is such. nice name. It belongs to the 'Timeless' and 'Classical' categories along with Nathaniel, Benjamin, Christian, Nicholas and Sebastian.
"Alexander has been a classic for thousands of years. It is lordly, cultural, and valiant". For the full entry, I recommend the book!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 10/02/2021 22:18

@Namingtrends Connie please. Xxxx

kittycat863 · 11/02/2021 14:01

@Namingtrends Thank you!

danascully96 · 13/02/2021 09:46

Hi @namingtrends 🥰 You’re so sweet to do this. Could you please do Anna and Lily? Then Daniel for a boy?
