Asking for my sister, she is thinking of using Cece as a full name? What are your thoughts?

I personally love it!

My first thought is that I wouldn't know how to pronounce it - do you know which of the many possibles she has in mind?

Dreamsunwind · 03/02/2021 14:30

@AuntieStella "see see"

I think it's fine; I really like it and would know to pronounce it the way you said.

I saw a lush name the other day; Thomasin. If I wasn't past having babies it would definitely be on my girls list.

SurvivalIsInsufficient · 03/02/2021 14:37

Sorry, but I think its dreadful. And unfair to give a diminutive as a full name.

User27aw · 03/02/2021 14:39

There is a Cece in my sons class whose full name is Cecelia

fimimifi · 03/02/2021 14:40

Can't she name her Cecelia and use Cece as a nickname? I think Cecelia is a beautiful name.

TheRedFox · 03/02/2021 14:41

I don't see it as a full BC name. Very much a nickname. Less important now, but perhaps more so as an adult.

Froggie456 · 03/02/2021 14:41

It sounds like a cute nickname you give a baby, but not really suitable when she’s older. If she loves it I’d personally put something like Cecilia on the birth certificate although I know that’s frowned upon on MN.

Ineedsleepzz · 03/02/2021 14:46

I really like it.
I don't think it needs to be lengthened to anything else. Why bother if no one is going to call her the full version of her name?

Love it.

bridgetreilly · 03/02/2021 14:57

Celia
Cecilia
Celeste
Cecily
Cicely
Celine
Celina
Cindy
Sienna
Cilla

But not, for heaven's sake, Cece. It's a cute nickname for a kid. She doesn't have to put it on the birth certificate and limit the child's options later in life.

bridgetreilly · 03/02/2021 14:58

Why bother if no one is going to call her the full version of her name?

How do you know what people will be calling her when she's 40? Plenty of people have a cute nickname as a child, but as an adult prefer to be known by a different version of their name. Why would you unnecessarily limit your child's future choices?

SurvivalIsInsufficient · 03/02/2021 14:59

Why bother if no one is going to call her the full version of her name?

1, you can't control what other people call her and 2. she might well want an actual name.

It's so little girly. Some people just name a baby, not a whole person.

ReggieKrait · 03/02/2021 15:02

It’s a nickname for Cecelia isn’t it? I’d definitely put a full name on the birth certificate, not a diminutive. Cecelia is lovely.

HurricaneBitch · 03/02/2021 15:06

My dd(15) has a friend called Cece, she is Cecily.

Sausagedog1 · 03/02/2021 15:07

I definitely wouldn't. I would use Cecily or Cecelia, both lovely.
I wouldn't like to be an adult Cece.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/02/2021 15:09

I'm generally ok with diminutives as names but even I agree CeCe is just a bit of a sound of a name

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/02/2021 15:09

I don't think it works as well as say Kate or Maggie as a useable version of a longer name. It's incredibly nickname sounding in a way others aren't.

Celia or Cecilia are so much nicer, and Cece is a lovely nickname of them.

My own child has a nickname as a first name, but to my ear it's comparable to the Kate/Maggie style than, say, Cece.

pinkyredrose · 03/02/2021 15:10

Anything can be a full name, if she likes it use it.

Twizbe · 03/02/2021 15:13

My DD is Cerys and we call her Ceecee for short.

There is another Ceecee in her class and it's her full name. It's a proper name in her fathers culture so decided just to go with it.

Twizbe · 03/02/2021 15:15

Autocorrect added another couple of e's .... Cece for short bit Ceecee

Kottbullar · 03/02/2021 15:23

If she loves it I’d personally put something like Cecilia on the birth certificate although I know that’s frowned upon on MN.
I'd say it's the exact opposite on MN there's always the handwringing about not being able to be PM or a High court judge if you don't have a 'proper' name on your birth certificate.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 03/02/2021 15:32

Of course it can.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 03/02/2021 15:33

I LOVE Cece but agree it can't be a full name. It's very juvenile. As a nickname it's gorgeous though. I know a Cece whose name is Clara... Catherine, maybe? So C.C initials, nickname Cece. So soo many options to get nickname Cece, including the names listed above (pretty great list from a PP sp I won't bother repeating the names!)

diddl · 03/02/2021 15:41

Would make me think that the girl's initialy are being used.

As in Beaches-Cecilia Carol.

Orphlids · 03/02/2021 15:42

I like it, and I think it’s fine to use it as a full name. I don’t find it particularly cutesy. Quite the opposite actually, I think it sounds quite sophisticated. I picture an elegant, wealthy woman. It has a pleasant 1930s vibe. Personally, I do love the name Cecilia, so I would use that, and Cece as a nickname, but I do think Cece is fine by itself.
