Asking for my sister, she is thinking of using Cece as a full name? What are your thoughts?

I personally love it!

@Kottbullar interesting. Every thread I’ve read always seems to be “if you are going to use a nickname put that on the BC. What’s the point putting on BC if you never use that?”

Synchrony · 03/02/2021 16:06

I wouldn't know how to pronounce

Mochudubh · 03/02/2021 16:13

I think C.C. is fine as shorthand for Chloe Claire or whatever but the pronunciation of Cece is ambiguous and could potentially get close to Keech/kaka (kids can be very cruel).

HenriettaHeffalump · 03/02/2021 16:25

I love Cecily.

We know a Sienna who gets see see (si si?).

Cece on its own is a bit silly imo (sorry). Feel the same about Mimi (short for Miriam, I like it, but on its own no way).

JemimaTiggywinkle · 03/02/2021 16:25

Like when you Cc someone into an email?

viques · 03/02/2021 16:31

@EugenesAxe

I think it's fine; I really like it and would know to pronounce it the way you said.

I saw a lush name the other day; Thomasin. If I wasn't past having babies it would definitely be on my girls list.

I couldn’t cope with Thomasin,I would be itching to add on the missing a. Grin
Chilldonaldchill · 03/02/2021 16:42

I think you can use it but it's much better as a shortened version of a "proper" name. I love Cecily and Cecilia though so would use them in a heartbeat.
Cece is lovely though. There was one on this season's Junior Bake Off. It wasn't her full name.

YoniAndGuy · 03/02/2021 17:21

Oh no don't!

It's lovely, but why deny the child the option of anything other than a nickname? It SOUNDS like a nickname. Celia, Cecilia, Cecily - all lovely. Use one of those.

LadyEloise · 03/02/2021 17:26

Hasn't Susanna of Trinny and Susanna tv fame got a Cece ?

diddl · 03/02/2021 18:36

"Hasn't Susanna of Trinny and Susanna tv fame got a Cece?"

Lyla.

FreeChuro · 03/02/2021 18:38

My sister gets called Cece, her name is Felicity.

Monkeypeas · 03/02/2021 18:39

It’s a cute nickname but the baby would have a lifetime of ‘and what’s it short for?’

I know 3 Cece’s who are really Sienna (Sisi), Cecelia and Darcia

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 03/02/2021 18:42

My friends daughter is a Cecelia who goes by the name Cece.

Firebird83 · 03/02/2021 18:44

Celeste nn Cece would be nice.

RaininSummer · 03/02/2021 18:47

I quite like it but I would have pronounced it wrongly it seems as 'sessy'.

notalwaysalondoner · 03/02/2021 18:53

I agree on the nickname thing not being great for a professional adult - I recently worked with a Mimi and a Tilly and I have to admit I don’t think their names did them any favours. I appreciate people may use their nicknames even if they aren’t their given names but I’d like to give my child the option.

partyatthepalace · 03/02/2021 20:15

No it’s way too too slight and breathy to be a full name - sounds like a baby name.

Just call her (any of) Cecilia, Celia, Cecily, Cecile, Celina. Then she’ll have options -

Brighterthansunflowers · 03/02/2021 20:43

It’s a nice nickname but no it shouldn’t be the full name.

Onlinedilema · 03/02/2021 21:17

I don't normally like nicknamey names but I really like Cece. I wouldn't put anything else on the birth certificate, what is the point? Lots of names start of as Nick names. Jack and Kate for example. You wouldn't tell someone they must put John and Catherine on the birth certificate.

Pinkblueberry · 03/02/2021 21:22

It’s usually spelled CeCe isn’t it - looks a bit off without the capital C in the middle, but then surely you can’t spell a real name with a capital in the middle. It sounds nice though.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/02/2021 22:34

Cece is too nicknamey and insubstantial on it's own imo. I think it would be kinder to give her a full name in case she wants to use it when older - Cecilia, Celia, Celine, etc (Or pp suggestions of Felicity or Sienna if she wants a more popular BC name).

username1724 · 03/02/2021 22:37

Dds middle name is Cicely which i think is pretty. My nan goes by Sisi but gets called 'Seece' a lot

Dreamsunwind · 04/02/2021 11:24

Thank you, will link this to her. I don't think it sounds cutesy but lots do so something for her to think about. She was hoping to use just Cece. We use Gigi, Bella, Kate etc etc etc, so maybe people aren't used to Cece as being one of those names

LittleBoPeep95 · 04/02/2021 11:25

**Cecilia
Celeste
Cecily
Cicely
Celine
Celina
Cindy
Sienna
Cilla

But not, for heaven's sake, Cece. It's a cute nickname for a kid. She doesn't have to put it on the birth certificate and limit the child's options later in life.**

This.

RuthW · 04/02/2021 12:13

I know a Sienna nicknamed Cece.
