Completely torn between two 'boring' names!

I'm beginning to panic a bit as we still haven't settled on a name for our baby girl- and I'm desperate not to wait until she's here to decide (so please don't suggest that as an option!)

We love both Emily and Alice. I've always loved Emily and that's the name we settled on at first and started using it to refer to bump. But I felt that we hadn't tried hard enough to explore all options and after reading the whole baby name book I thought Alice was nice. My husband prefers Alice too (although he does like Emily).

So we settled on Alice thinking it was slightly more underused and I got very excited about it. But we keep on accidentally referring to her as Emily still and I can't help but feel in my gut I prefer the name Emily?

So which do you think? Emily or Alice?

Emily

AndThenTheDayBecomesTheNight · 21/01/2021 06:22

Emily (but only because it is also one of my favourite names, not because it is in any way objectively 'better' than Alice. They are both nice and both very similar in style and feel).

DinosaurDiana · 21/01/2021 06:23

Emily.

MountainPeakGeek · 21/01/2021 06:23

Emily.

Sunsetsaddict80 · 21/01/2021 06:24

Go with your gut

Grizzlypanda · 21/01/2021 06:26

I prefer Emily

Screwcorona · 21/01/2021 06:40

I prefer alice. Love Alice Cooper, Alice in wonderland and also have a lovely family member with the name

eaglejulesk · 21/01/2021 06:54

Alice

gettingshitstraight · 21/01/2021 06:57

Alice.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 21/01/2021 06:58

I prefer Alice. I think you should keep both names as options and decide when she arrives.

RandomGrammarPun · 21/01/2021 06:59

Alice.

Or Emily Alice?

Monkeytapper · 21/01/2021 07:00

Alice

EdgeOfACoin · 21/01/2021 07:26

Get a coin.

Heads: Emily
Tails: Alice

Toss coin.

Just before you look at which way the coin has landed, see if you are secretly hoping for a particular outcome. If so, that is the name you choose.

If not, let coin decide.

Ithinkhedidit · 21/01/2021 07:27

I prefer Emily. Imagine shouting each one about 5000 times a day. Which appeals more?! 😆

AngelDelightUK · 21/01/2021 07:27

Emily Alice they go quite nicely together

SendHelp30 · 21/01/2021 07:28

Emily Alice

Or

Alice Emily

wintertime6 · 21/01/2021 07:29

You've always loved Emily and were settled with it before you thought about other names so I would go with it. I think they're both lovely names and wire similar, but I prefer Emily too.

wintertime6 · 21/01/2021 07:29

are similar, not wire.....

sunlightbuttons · 21/01/2021 07:32

I like both, I'd probably go with Alice if it were me but you clearly love Emily so go with that!

FWIW even though it's apparently very popular there isn't a single Emily in my daughter's school year and there were none in her nursery class either. There are so many names to choose from now that even the popular ones aren't that common, it's not like the 90s when there were four 'Sarah's in a class.

pilates · 21/01/2021 07:33

Both lovely names not boring at all. Hard to choose but would probably go with Emily.

Swingometer · 21/01/2021 07:33

Both nice but I prefer Alice

Pudding01 · 21/01/2021 07:35

Emily!

Borington · 21/01/2021 07:35

Why not wait til you meet her?

We had just two names for our second daughter, and when we saw her the first time she really suited one of the names and not the other. We have no regrets!

joystir59 · 21/01/2021 07:37

Emily Alice (Alice as middle name)

Dozer · 21/01/2021 07:37

We had two names and chose one immediately when she arrived.
