Rate my baby names - unusual

We're currently TTC and after years of been together we have the ever growing baby name list saved in the notes section

The girls name change every so often with 1 always being firmly at the top and boys names the same as o find these really hard, give me some more ideas or middle names

GIRLS:

Pollie
Posie
Maebel
Thalia
Iris
Nuala

BOYS:

Jaxson
Lockie
Reid

Pollie - Polly is nice.
Posie - Ok, don’t love it.
Maebel - Mabel is nice, really underused. I wouldn’t add the random e.
Thalia - Ok.
Iris - Very pretty, I love this name but couldn’t use it because of our surname.
Nuala - I don’t like this one much.

Jaxson - Jackson is lovely, I would spell it like that. It seems like a friendly name.
Lockie - I really don’t like this, I don’t mind Lachlan.
Reid - It’s ok. It sounds a bit whiny to me but I’m not sure why. Maybe the character from Criminal Minds makes me think that?

Also, while I really like Jackson, it is very popular. Spelling it wrongly doesn’t make it less popular if you see what I mean? Like when you shout Jaxson at soft play and another parent shouts their Jackson, it will still be two Jacksons? Or at school it will still be Jackson A and Jaxson B because they’re still the same name.

If you’re looking for unusual, I would choose a less common name rather than misspell a popular name.

The only name I like from the lists for both boys and girls names is Iris. I really don't like any of the others at all. Sorry OP

Like Polly and Mabel - good strong names IF spelled correctly. Nothing like a few extra silly twee vowels shoved in to turn a strong name into a silly simpering one.

Nuala is like calling her Doris - WAAAAY out of fashion.

Don't like any of the boys' names really - sounds like you are really trying hard to find something a bit different but actually haven't hit on anything that just sounds nice yet. How about Bruno, Otis, River, Leif, Jared, Cody, Wolf?

Mabel is my favourite, but Maebel looks awful to me.

We liked the name Tilly/Tillie but not Matilda.

Posie - Cute! Like it as a nickname for Josephine too
Maebel - Did you spell it like this on purpose? It looks a typo. But I like Mabel!

Doesn't really matter how you spell it - there are probably quite a few people who assume your Tillie is a Tilly, but neither is actually her given name.

Like a Suzanne who goes by Suzy - does it matter if some people refer to Suzie - no.

OP is talking about mis-spelling given names. So Pollie will have a lifetime of receiving 'Polly' back on official correspondence, havign to spell it out over the phone etc. For a given, full name - it's wrong and it looks wrong.

Tillie as a nickname is fine.

Jaxson was top of my list of DD was a boy, although I’m in the south east and it seems like every other boy being born is called Jackson which has put me off it a little bit. Other names we liked was Hudson, Leighton and Austin.

I really like Thalia and Maebel from your girls list. I’m with you in preferring the ie spellings on names and I really don’t think it will be annoying your DD would just say Pollie with an ie. Even popular names have lots of different spellings Stephen/Steven Sarah/Sara.

Other girls names you could have is Blossom, Maeva, Maevan, Maebry, Dahlia, Tansie.

You'll see that there are a couple of spelling mistakes in my post above. I was obviously typing too quickly. When we read them, they can make us stop, and lose concentration. Names spelled very unusually can have the same effect.

hahah this isn't such a bad thing, there isn't a wrong/right way of spelling a name as names are unique to that specific person, I've never believed in the phonic sounding of names ie a lot of names Haylee, Hayleigh, Hayley, Hailee all different spellings but share the same pronunciation

Not offended, just felt a bit sorry for the person in question because she presumed the name had been misspelled in error.

I bet Jemma loved it, I have never ever ever felt sorry for someone because of there name, that idea just seems wild to me

I have a Mabel, I chose it because it was the one old fashioned name that hadn’t quite been brought back yet.. and now I see a lot of Mabel’s😂 I still love it I just wanted something that wasn’t in every single classroom and now I think it will be 😁

It's one of them names that is so different and nice though even if she is one of a few Mabels, she has a beautiful name

No not looking for anything usual and we 100% know the name would be pronounced the same we just prefer this way of spelling

OP, from your previous posts, clearly you're not likely to take into consideration the opinion of others.
However, from the point of view of a former primary school teacher, I have witnessed first hand the awkwardness of a name deliberately misspelled.
A foreign language teacher and a child had an embarrassing stand off about the first letter of the child's name, because the child had a common name that was bizarrely spelled incorrectly.
Ask yourself why it is that you wish to spell your child's name incorrectly.
Do you want for them to stand out? Do you wish to be individual? Do you wish for these things for them or for yourself?
In a professional setting, I personally am very grateful for a normal name. You aren't just naming a baby. You're naming a person with a future.

To me illiterate wouldn't cross my mind, or lower class or uneducated! love the name Tillie and understand why you went with Tillie and not Tilly, lovely name

Firstly why would a teacher have a stand off with a child? Not very professional imo?

I used to work in nurseries/schools before I went to uni and working with the general public and the amount of names I've come across not once has a name spelt differently made me think any differently of the person of their parents, that view just blows my mind.

I love the name Pollie and love the way the ie is written down and I believe that if a person came across this name they wouldn't have trouble to pronounce it or read it as it looks just like 'Polly' I feel like we live in a diverse country that has so many cultures that the spelling of 'Pollie' wouldn't hinder or embarrass a child and wouldn't prevent her from becoming anything she wanted to be?
My opinion hasn't changed slightly and like I said I like this spelling more as it shows individualism nothing wrong with that just my opinion anywayyyy

For girls you seem to want a fairly traditional girly name but spelt in a unique way. Bonus points for ie ending.

For boys you don't want anything Scottish, with a leaning towards surnames, and again, unique spelling.

You are fairly confident that your child won't mind having to spell their name out each time they say it, as your husband really enjoys doing this daily.

See Callie I've only ever known to be spelt 'Cally' but I prefer tour way of spelling

As for Ashleigh I hate that way of spelling but love Ashlie/Ashlee but that's another can of worms
