Just think Joely-eeen
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man

emmathedilemma · 18/11/2020 10:08

awful, sounds like you really wanted a boy so stuck a y on the end of Joel to make it feminine.

Oneandabean · 18/11/2020 10:10

I think there could be a lot of teasing, I immediately thought of jolenne song and I think that will follow a name like that

cloverbug · 18/11/2020 10:21

Doesn't seem to popular here 🙁
The reason it caught my eye is because it sounds similar to Joy and Jolly which I thought was lovely.

For anyone wondering:
"Meaning: God Will Be Willing. The name Joely means God Will Be Willing and is of English origin. Joely is a name that's been used primarily by parents who are considering baby names for girls."

It's the name of a well-known actress, daughter of the even more famous Vanessa Redgrave:

It's not to my taste but I can't see why a child would be teased for having the name. If you love it then use it.

Ingridla · 18/11/2020 11:08

I think it's lovely, the actress Joely Richardson comes to mind.

Newuser991 · 18/11/2020 11:12

I dont like Joel for a boy either

Depending on the accent pronouncement comes out as Jowl / Jowly. A colleague has a ds named Joel and with her accent she said Jowl

Just awful

PolarBearStrength · 18/11/2020 11:14

I’ve met two Women called Joely and they were both lovely!

redkenso · 18/11/2020 11:16

It's lovely.

tsmainsqueeze · 18/11/2020 11:16

I think its lovely.

Tararararara · 18/11/2020 11:20

It isn't very common but it's a perfectly normal and fairly traditional name. Nothing wrong with it. I immediately thought of Joely Richardson but that might be my age!

Mybobowler · 18/11/2020 11:26

I really want to like this name but I'm never completely sure how to pronounce it!

NameChange84 · 18/11/2020 11:29

Not massively keen...

What is it - Jo-Ellie or Jo-lee? Or Jolly?

Nell96 · 18/11/2020 11:37

I quite like it. Joley Richardson springs to mind. Also the song 'Jolene' - which is fab, especially the version by the White Stripes 😊

neverenoughchelseaboots · 18/11/2020 11:39

I think it's lovely.

NameChange84 · 18/11/2020 11:46

For what it’s worth...I do like Joy, Jolie (as in Angelina or the French Word) or Jocelyn.

purpleme12 · 18/11/2020 11:48

Surprised by the negative comments!
It's a lovely name and doesn't sound like you just wanted a boy at all. Joely is a name in its own right

cloverbug · 18/11/2020 11:51

@NameChange84 It's pronounced like Jolie, as in Angelina Jolie. Smile
I could see how it may be pronounced differently in the UK though. (I'm in Australia)

Love Joe for a boy and Joel is ok but not keen on Joely.

Beamur · 18/11/2020 11:54

It's lovely. I thought of Joely Richardson too - she's very classy.
But it could be mangled in certain accents.

YesPleaseMary · 18/11/2020 11:55

I like it.

bitheby · 18/11/2020 11:55

I thought of Joely Fisher. I say it Jo - eh - lee

NameChange84 · 18/11/2020 12:02

Thanks, in that case I’d go with Jolie.

Joely really looks like Jo-ellie to me.

purpleme12 · 18/11/2020 12:05

Joely is the correct spelling for the girl's name
Jolie would be choosing to change the spelling
